What alternator relocation are you guy's using?

Hey guy's, I've ditched my ac and power steering. I'm looking for a alternator relocation bracket (just the alternator off the crank). So far I'm looking into the sjm manufacturing and the speed inc brackets but there pretty pricey for what they are. I've seen a few others but they look kinda crappy. What are you guy's using and what do you recomend?

Thanks in advance
Ryan

I simply use an old style chrome alternator bracket. It you cut it right both pieces are completely used and works like a charm. My car isn't at this house so I can't measure the length but I attached a picture of it.

Good luck

go with the PCMforless bracket, i have the SJM one and am not happy with it at all. ESPECIALLY for the price paid for it

OMG 114.95 that is amazing. I think I was pissed when the chrome one I used cost ~$15.

JakesZ28 on LTxtech.com sell them

somlt1 Apr 13, 2010 07:25 PM

I have the madman one! it was a little pricey jakesz28 has it alot cheaper i think

airfix Apr 13, 2010 07:45 PM

Thanks guy's, I'll have to check out the jakez28 one right now on ltxtech. So far it looks like I'm going with the speedinc unit as it looks to be the nicest, although not the cheapest. Does anyone know if the speedinc one comes with a belt?

im about to save you 100$..heres what you need to do your own

http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/store...Term=555-50542

notice the bracket is the same as in everyones kit..nice mark up huh!

Now like the ebay link you will need that part # belt..thanks blackz93 for that link i been trying to figure out the part number for some time on the belt all these kits use.

Okay now that you have everything run down to your local ace hardware, lowes or home depot and grab the bolts you will need a quck mock up and measure will give you an idea of the bolt lengths you need..now that you got you bolts that will work walk over to the plumbing section and get a foot of copper pipe lil bit larger then your bolts..this is what you will use to make your spacers..gab some washers for your bolts also while your at it..

Now just take your bracket and mount your alt up to the block..look and make sure everything is inline and then measure up and cut the copper tube around that lenght..then take that and put a washer on each end and bam your spacer are now made and your done..take car out for a spin and enjoy the savings

Nice find, Thanks dude. Should be a pretty easy job, I'll do a write up once I'm done hopefully this weekend depending on how fast it gets here.

suicidal racing Apr 13, 2010 09:38 PM

no problem man..first time i went looking on here for the lower alt mount deal and seen the bracket and how much people where charging for the kit i was like wtf seeing the bracket is what ive always used on my street cars with 1st gen engines..

i look at the mark up on the ls1 and lt1 shit and just shake my head seeing alot of it is same shit used on first gen sbc or bbc's

airfix Apr 13, 2010 10:16 PM

Ya for sure. Some of its rediculous, this kit is supose to come with hardware. Hopefully the supplied hardware and spacers work if not itll be easy to make them up.

AChotrod Apr 13, 2010 11:06 PM

The Speedinc kit is deffintily the nicest! Thats what I run!

airfix Apr 14, 2010 12:11 AM

Thats what I was gonna buy, but I'm gonna see if I can make the jegs one work since its only $24 I won't be keeping my power steering.

That isnt the bracket we use. It will not fit the LT1 alt.

madman what is the difference..the brackets look exactly the same..you might need to mod it some but i would only be using the front bracket plate..the big one not the backing plate..they guy above in here said he used an old one he had laying around

Yes it can be modded. You have to cut and weld the plate to get the spacing for the alt. mounting holes right.

Anybody get this bracket to work? Im thinking about going this route. Also was wondering if deleting the power steering is worth the gain? How hard is it to turn the wheels with no power steering? Do I just loop the lines on the rack?
