electrical problem, car doesn't start Ok I have this problem. When I turn the key to ON, all the lights etc come on. When I try to start the car, I hear a clicking sound and then all the electrical goes dead. Turning the key back to ON and it stays completely dead. If I take the key out a wait a bit, I can turn the key to ON again and the electrical works again, but everything still goes dead after I hear a click when I try to start. Could this be a blown fuse of some kind? If so which one? thanks oh and I don't think its the battery because I just put in a new battery. I checked the voltage and it seemed good. |
sounds like the starter. |
would the starter cause all the electrical to just cut off though? that seemed odd to me. |
Check for dirty grounds and check inside your battery terminals for corrosion. I had the original side mount terminals and they were corroding underneath the cable end covers with the same symptoms yours is having... |

When I first checked the cable the bolt was tight, but it turns out that it was screwed in wrong. When I had this battery replaced I took it to auto zone, when i bought the new battery they offered to put it in. BIG MISTAKE! It turns out the idiot screwed the bolt in crooked so it destroyed the bolt thread and made intermittent contact. :eyes: Changed out the bolt for a good one, and screwed it in right and it fired right up. Moral: NEVER LET AUTO ZONE TOUCH YOUR CAR! |
Isn't it nice to find out it is something simple? I'm happy for ya, so go do some burnouts to celebrate! |
