Can't find head gaskets

Where should I get a set of headgaskets? GM parts direct has the part number #12553160headgasket, WItch is what im looking to get but says the shiping could take a few weeks, Summit says est. shiping is 5/3/10.

Im ready to put my motor back together but I don't have any headgaskets! any ideas on where I should order them? I checked local parts stores and all they have is fel-pro basic stock replacements.

What kind of compression or headgasket thinkness you looking for?

jay7199 Apr 21, 2010 05:23 PM

.028 and stock bore

i heard something about the Victor reinz 5898? but that seems to be a bigger bore and I can't seem to find a place to buy it either.

These are .026 thick should work just fine.

Victor Reinz 5898 is the Impala gasket. It will work on standard bore fine, and larger.

I believe Autozone sells Fel Pro head gaskets.

JB_97ws6TA Apr 21, 2010 07:14 PM

I thought fel pros are .039? I know the 1074s are

jay7199 Apr 22, 2010 03:46 PM

you gotta be kidding me MRG5716 Not in stock. won't let me order them

Any other places guys? this is frustrating

SS RRR Apr 22, 2010 03:52 PM

If you are doing this for a boost in compression you aren't going to notice any power difference whatsoever between a .039 and .028 gasket.

jay7199 Apr 22, 2010 03:54 PM

motor is apart, new cam, valvetrain and so forth, im bumping the compression too, but lets not turn this into a who what why thread, Just need to find the gasket.

SS RRR Apr 22, 2010 03:56 PM

Just saying if you need gaskets then a .039 will do what you need to reach your power goals just fine.

bump anyone? one of 2 things holding me back from putting my motor together
