Default Optispark Replacement Question

I am installing the optispark this weekend on my 96' WS6. Its is a Delphi unit that I purchased from thepartspros (formerly thepartladi). Question is should I take it apart and loctite the screws and the seal the cap to the base with RTV??? I have searched and most people say this is not necessary with the OEM opti's and that the loctite can actually weaken the plastic on the rotor and the RTV can put the contacts tolerance between rotor and cap futher apart. What do you all think think???

I've always installed them as they come in the box...some people swear by taking them all apart. I don't.

I swear by adding a dab of thread locker to the rotor screws. It can't hurt and I don't see how it could make the rotor weaker. Use moderation when applying it and be careful not to over-tighten the screws. I've replaced countless units for customers (AC Delco, Delphi, MSD, crappy aftermarkets) because the rotor screws backed out and detached from the base. Some add silicone around the base for better waterproofing. I've never had an issue with that.

At least locktite the rotor screws, and running a bead of silicone around the case seal won't hurt a thing. If your spending the money replacing a opti you don't want to be back doing the same thing in 300 miles cause 2 pos screws came out(ask me how I know).

When you pull the cap off, you should see a little rubber ring that goes where the cap seals to the base. Just add a little bead of silicone all the way around where this rubber seal is.

I used a dab of red thread locker on the opti rotor screws. I use blue thread locker on the water pump bolts.

Why would you use blue thread locker on waterpump bolts? Are you retarded?

thread sealant is what you need Einstein.
