Default low oil pressure

I just changed my oil to that new castrol edge stuff and after the car warmed up i only have about 25psi driving and 0-5 psi at idle. so i thought it was the oil so i change back to mobil one 10w 40 and when i pull the drain plug there was metal shavings all over it. this oil is still doing the same thing. when its idling the motor sounds tight, i dont hear the lifters making any noise. when the car is cold i have about 45 psi. any ideas what might me going on?

How fresh is the motor?
Do you run it hard?

Well if the metal shavings on the plug weren't your first clue.... not sure what you expect someone to tell you.

You have a major engine problem and if you keep running it you are going to have a catastrophic failure.

The oil shavings are probably plugging the pickup and causing the low pressure, which will in turn exacerbate whatever problem is already there due to oil starvation and destroy the engine that much quicker.

Pull it and tear it down to see what's going on.

with no noise its most likely cam bearings. check it with a mechanical gauge before tearing it down

Spun rod bearing most likely, or main bearing. Would think you would hear a noise in the bottom end though.

Very unlikely. The oil pump is very hearty and the most lubricated part of the motor.

My engine done something similar last year. Only difference is it held decent oil pressure. Metal shavings were all over the place and then eventually there was a faint knock when the engine heated up. Tore the engine down and all bearings were in terrible shape. Cam bearings were the worse.

i don't think it really matters what the real problem is, you have a problem with the motor and if you want to be able to rebuild it and not cost you even more money when it throws a rod then pull the motor now who knows maybe you'll get away with just new bearing and a oil pump if you want something to get you by for a while.
