What's going to break? For the first time since I built my new motor (about 2 years ago) I'm going to the track. I just got my MT ET streets mounted yesterday so I'm sure something will break. I've never run this car on slicks so I'm not really sure what to expect. I'm guessing either the rear end or tranny will go first. My tranny has a mild shift kit and fresh rebuild and I'm still running a 10 bolt rear. I have Moser axles and a Trickflow girdle cover. This is also an LS1 rear not LT1 if that matters. I know this is a stupid post but I'm just really bored today. |
How about you may get lucky. A buddie of mine with a ls1 was spraying outof the hole somewhere around 505 and never granaded the rear |
Id bet nothing breaks! If it were a 6spd Id say the trans most likely since you have a built 10bolt. |
If you think like that something probably will break! Maybe take it easy the first couple runs to see where your at. Have you street driven it yet? |
Wow im dumb i neglected to read the "2 years ago" part. Of course you've street driven it |
I really don't think anything is going to break but you never know. I drive this car every day and it seems to hold up fine on the street but like I said I never ran it on slicks. I'm hoping everything goes smooth and I get decent times. I'm pretty much just going over everything so if something does break it's not my fault for stupidity. lol. |
With an A4 and you're power level, if that rear is in good shape (sounds like it is) you'll more than likely be fine. The majority of my stock 10-bolt failures occurred on the street under less-than-desirable conditions, or just abuse. If something does fail...I'd say 80% chance being your ring/pinion; 20% your input sprag. |
Since you have an LS1 rear, did you go aluminum DS? Maybe that one first lol. |

I highly doubt anything will break. Just remember if the car wheel hops at all then let out of it because that's what will break parts. I have a untouched 10-bolt with 3.73's that has seen 1.5-1.6 60' and sixty foot times for the past two years with both ET Streets and ET Street Radials. If anyone beats the hell out of their car it would be me so I wouldn't be too worried. If you have a trans cooler the transmission should be fine. Something I would soon address if you haven't already would be relocating the torque arm off the tailhousing of the transmission and onto the transmission crossmember, UMI makes a really nice piece that I bought about a year ago, works great. |
I think you will be just fine, if you did not have a rear girdle i would say maybe the rear end but with an a4 you should do just fine. but anything can happen. |

The tranny will probably go before the 10 bolt. If you're hard on it it's not if it's when, sadly. |
I already went through a 10 bolt and a tranny so I'm hoping I get lucky. My stock 10 bolt died when I just had some bolt-ons and my tranny blew apart right after I finished breaking my new motor in. |
Always think something is going to break. If you don't and you start to get comfy with the fact that nothing is going to break, thats when BAM!!!......Something breaks. |

your gonna spin a bearing and bend a rod. dont go! |
I just finished putting my slicks on. I'm really hoping it doesn't rain tonight. If all goes good I should have new times posted tomorrow night. |
I've broke 5 rears....Trust me it's a crap shoot. First set of gears (3.73's) I had professionally installed. After that I just did it myself. I had an install kit, all new bearings TA cover, you name it....I got it. It still broke my 2nd time to the track. I have broke 3.42's and 3.73's. The only gear that stays together is the factory 2.73's lol. It has almost always been the ring and pinion. In all fairness a couple times has not been the gears fault. Once I broke the transmission and once I broke the drive shaft and torque arm....the gears did not seem to like that to much. |
