Default tempo question for all lt1 owners

i want to make sure mine is running around what it should once i get it back together.

what temp. does your car usually run at when it is at full temp.

im doing a cam swap as well if that makes any difference in the temp. thanks

FYI - Along with the 160 degree thermostat advice, if you can, flush out ALL the "Dexcool" coolant and then go with standard old school (i.e. - green coolant), not the orange Dexcool, and not the universal coolant; as the standard Prestone / Peak stuff has a greater ability to remove excess engine heat.

After the switch (with a 160 degree thermostat), my temps only hit 170 (MAX) even when ambient temps were in the triple digits (NC here). Oh, and standard Prestone coolant doesn't eat Aluminum as quickly as Dexcool either!

With a 160* stat and an engine oil cooler at idle in south Texas summer it gets to 185 max. In the winter it barely comes off the peg.
