Default Power Steering went out?

Well I ended up getting my car basically trapped on the side of the road bcs the plows had pushed snow and it built up to basically the bottom of my door so it took me 20 minutes to get out so I could go to work. In the process of getting out my ps went out and now its really hard to turn the wheel but it can be turned when you put some force to it. I checked the reservoir and it was dry so I ran down the street to autozone and bought a bottle...filled up the reservoir and and the ps worked for about 10 seconds then it stopped working again and the reservoir was dry again and i saw fluid all down the passenger side wall and equipment near the pump. So I'm thinking the pump went bad or a line broke somehow and I need to look at it when I get a chance but do I risk damaging anything by driving with the system dry and not operational?

Well if the pump is still good and a line is bad, then yes you will damage the pump by driving it dry.

But if the pump is already bad and that's what's leaking, then there is no more damage to be done. You need a new pump.

Try and find where the leak is coming from and go from there

ok well i went out and put more fluid in it and ran it w/ the hood open to see if i could find out where the leak is coming from...its leaking where the hardline connects to the pump from the lower passenger side of the pump...so my guess is either the hardline needs to be tightened or theres a hole in the hardline

Really? Not to be an ***, but it's nothing special, nor is it hard to get to. Throw a couple metric wrenches on there and find out. I am sure that it's metric though.

If you can, use a line wrench. If you strip that bitch, forget it.

im not trying to be lazy but the fact is that im at school and all my car tools are back at home i have to go to autozone and buy a wrench just for this occasion so I dont wanna be buying a whole slew of wrenches when I have them at home.
