Default cc306 on stock bottom end?

Well im gathering all the info that i could to get familiar and ready for a cam swap and LE1 heads, by reading all of the reviews watching vids and numbers being put up with the cc306 and head work, im impressed but not certain if this is on a stock bottom end or not. im new to all of this and i know the cam guide sticky doesnt recomend it but i just want to know can this be done and make good numbers with a stock bottom end and full bolt ons?

it can be done and has been. some guys have put up some nice numbers with it and times. although if you're buying the cam new why not just have lloyd spec you one for basically the same cost since you're gonna run his heads?

stock lifters are fine as long as they are functioning properly, if not replacement LS7 lifters are the next option imo.

valve springs, I run the crane 10308 kit but I don't know if it's even still made.

roller rockers, I have cheap SA ProForms that work for my application but most will agree that a set of NSA rockers with guideplates and good pushrods is your best bet.

As others have stated, if you are looking at LE1's, you should talk to him about all the custom cam accommodating valvetrain and whatnot. Even if you find LE1 or LE2 heads used, I'm sure he'll help you out with doing a custom cam or helping you find the correct parts to use with it

I ran really quick a couple years back with a similar setup, 355" LT1 (bored .030 over), LE2's/CC306, longtubes, 3500stall, stock M6 3.42's in the 10bolt, in my car a few years back. I was able to run 11.20's@120mph N/A and low 10's@133+mph with 150HP N2o. I am also looking to sell my newer LE3 heads for $900+shipping. LMK Later Clint

The question is can you run well with the CC THREE OH SIX CAM. He didn't ask what cam he should run according to ls1tech.

Of all dyno graphs I've seen with the 306 cam it runs out of breath in the 6200 RPM range. Most agree on 6500 being the safe limit on stock shortblock.

This means yes, you can run it on the stock bottom end most of the time. A built bottom end certainly helps if you want to spin higher safely.

I spin mine to 6500 on the reg.

thats the set up im using, cc306, stock heads, stock bottom end, Pacesetter LT's and ORY with 3" magnaflow catback, patriot .650" lift spring kit, 1.6 rr, ls7 lifters, HD timing chain set, 58mm tb, tune by PCM's for less, hughs 3000 stall, 4.10's, and the nitrous express mainline 2000 kit jetted for 150. i spin my stock bottom end up for 6500 with no issues, the cam peaks right around there. never see any problems spraying the 150 either.

pretty solid set up, but like what the others have said LE has some nice set ups, and AI also has some nice set ups for H/C combo's. look into packages, its a lot cheaper than parting this **** together, trust me lol

Patriot Golds and Comp or Trickflow hardened pushrods. That cam will be fine, people are running bigger than that on stock bottom ends

The 306 cam was a successful stable for many f-bodys dating back to the early 90's. With GTP heads and 306 cam it was not uncommon to see mid to low 11's at 117 to 120mph.
