Default Ever Use These Head Gaskets?

Ok, a brief history on my car. It's a 1995 Z28 that I bought with a blown head gasket. I have the shortblock rebuilt and I am waiting for the heads to be finished. The guy I bought the car from gave me everything I need to put the motor back together including new head bolts and a new set of head gaskets but I am not sure if I should use the gaskets. They are a Victor/Reinz gasket number 5922 from Carquest. That is the gasket that Carquest says fits this engine. Has anybody used these? I hate to use them only to have problems, but I am kind of on a budget and also don't want to spend an extra $80 for Fel-pro gaskets if it's not necessary. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I don't see why those won't work, you don't have a blown race car and as long as your cooling system is working properly, you should have no issues. Make sure the sealing surfaces of the block and heads are clean and dry.

That's what I was thinking also. But I have had so many people tell me to get the Fel-Pro 1074 and they are like $80 for a set. If these aren't going to work I will buy the better gaskets, but if I don't need to these were given to me with the car. Thanks for the response.

Copper seal, is that the spray on stuff? I've heard of people using it, but never used it myself. The block is clean, heads are milled flat, should I still use the copper seal? I really appreciate the info.

Victor Reinz makes the factory GM gaskets. They are good. If you compare them they are identical. I wouldn't put anything on them. Just clean the mating surfaces of the head and the block and put it together.

I'm going to make a fairly bold statement and say I like the Victor/Reinz more than the felpro 1074. I have both gaskets and I can get side by side pictures if you like. The felpro has individual metal rings for the cylinders while the Victor/Reinz has a one peice design that has metal between the cylinders which i would think would be stronger.

Just put them on dry. You'll be fine.

I don't remember the PN off the top of my head but I have previously posted the PN for the "impala" head gasket which is nice and thin for more compression. Seeing as you posted a PN for the f-body I am going to guess that this is a thick gasket like the stock f-body one. Ask them what the compressed thickness is.
The stock f-body is about .049, the Felpros are .039, the stock Impala is .029 and there is a Mr.Gasket/VictorRienz that is .026 that a LOT of us use for the compression bump on a stock shortblock.

I have used Victor Reinz with NO issues running 11s all motor..
Also a good friend of mine has an AI heads cam car and runs them too with no problems..

We use Victor Reinz 5898 which are identical to MR Gasket 5716 just cheaper and better packaged... and they are $17.95 a piece
