That really sucks for those who have a bad experience. I personally have a great experience with them. Got an opti from them for my Formula and came in about two days. Email responses are like a day or two but other than that no issues at all. Car has been running great for the 4 months or so it has been installed.

I have one of his opti's and it got me home. Not sure how it will handle the track but for $100 it served its purpose.
I would pull it apart and red lcoktite the rotor screws. Blue is a waste of time. Trust me...I blew up my last GM opti when the rotor screws came out with only blue locktite on them...
And IMO you should never just replace the cap and rotor unless your in a pinch and need to get back on the road asap...replace the hole thing.

My CMS Opti has been good for a few thousand miles now! So far better then the 3 GM optis that lasted a total of 10,000 between them! GM opti's are crap! So far CMS are better and 60% cheaper!

I strongly disagree. Usually failed opti's are due to poor manufacturing (non-GM knock offs), leaking/failed water pump and/or install error. Stock GM opti's installed from the factory regularly last 100k+ miles. Mine lasted 140k miles before it went bad. So I don't know how anyone can say GM opti's are crap...

i just bought one just this second. I am doing a tune up and some seals and gaskets, and i tell you... at the end of the day i'm not spending an arm and a leg on an opti. people have issues with delco, people have issues with msd, and people have issues with cms..
I think i'll take my chance with a cms unit.

no matter what its a gamble. I went with a chadler opti 2 months back or so and i couldnt be happier. To each there own. Id rather spend $100 for something that isnt guaranteed then spend $500 on something that isnt guaranteed. true. you can speak to a guy from GM easier. But, as stated. To each there own

I bought new GM one for my build and I suspect it is bad. Havent officially diagnosed, but it has all the symptoms. I got it from partsladi, so no return options.
At this point, I have to agree with the guy above about it being a crapshoot.
Optisparks are just a **** poor design.
If I have to replace it, I think I will go with the MSD this time. They will warranty or rebuild thier stuff right?

apparently. but i haven't missed all the other threads about the msd and accels and even some about gm's. i have bought mostly gm units with the exception of one and i don't know if i just had some **** ones or that i just let them sit too long or what. but i have had a few in the last seven years for my two ltx's. and none of the replacements lasted as long as i would have hoped. and i am not an opti hater. i love ltx's. its just when you spend alot of money on something no matter what you hope it lasts. and the worst is when you replace it just cause for that piece of mind and it goes **** up on you.

Its easy to stamp a part number on anything and sell it.. They got shut down.. I took apart my parts ladi opti and my busted GM opti.. The optical sensor was not a gm (mitsu) piece..
