can't get lt1 edit or scanner to connect to pull codes Years ago I had a 1995 Formula that is basically stock. has air foil, and flow master muffler. I used Lt1 edit to change fan settings, top speed limit, skip shift ect.. Now the guy that owns it asked me to look at it. We can't get scanner to connect to the ecm, lt1 edit wont connect also. He has some codes that turn the fans on all the time, the engine light was on all the time so he pulled the light bulb out (lol). I checked continuity from the scanner port to the ecm on the buss wire and it read 1 ohm. Anyone have ideas on how to go about fixing the problem? Thanks |
Are you getting power to the ALDL connector, in other words, is the cig/acc fuse blown? |

I totally missed the part where you checked for continuity on the wire in between the aldl connector and the PCM. The next thing I would do is to check the connections at each end, if they are in good shape, I would cut the wire shortly after the connection on each end and run a new wire. |

I was just thinking about trying that. What all dose the buss wire go to? BCM, aldl, pcm and maybe some other thinks? http://shbox.com/1/DLC_wiring.jpg |

The serial data wire is the only one you need to be concerned about. According to the diagram linked below, it is pin 9 and it connects to pin D30 on the PCM. Now it also shows that the wire splits and also connects to the EBTCM, I don't know what or where that is. Maybe that's what the BCM of that year is called, but like I said I don't know. http://shbox.com/1/DLC_wiring.jpg Just to test it will it hurt anything? |
Ok here is what I have tried so far today. 1. I cleaned the aldl connector with carb cleaner, no go 2. Ran new wire from pcm d30 to aldl, no go 3. tested contunity through aldl connector to my scanner, no go 4. tested for both grounds, 12v battery, ect.., no go 5. put it all back together, turned key on plugged scanner in and it worked said no codes found, (due to battery being undone) Unpluged mass air started car to get it to throw a code, shut it off tryed to read codes again, now its back to not connecting. 6. Put a light bulb back into the service engine soon spot. 7. tried again still no connection. 8. right now the ses light is off (no code) still no connection. 9. Checked the pins and connections at the pcm look ok. Any ideas?? |
because its a 95 dose that mean its a obd1 pcm with obd2 connector?? How dose that effect my scanner? |

I thought you had figured that out when you originally had the car, that's why I didn't post this: http://shbox.com/1/xraycable.jpg |
I was using a actron OBD2 scanner. |
ok looks like I need a obd1 scanner. My actron CP9001 won't work. My actron cp9180 won't work. So Maybe the scanner won't connect due to using the wrong one, and maybe the Lt1 edit won't work due to using a serial to usb converter.?? |
