Default Misfire.... SOME ONE HELP ME!!

I was on the way to school this morning and the check engine light started flashing, and I felt a severe loss of power... Every time I left off the gas, it just back fires...

Does anybody have any ideas... All the wires look fine... maybe plugs, theyre only a month or two old tho, they are AC Delco plugs.

Can someone tell me what this is?

PLEASE DONT BE THE OPTI!!

Hahahah its not that bad. I had the same problem and it turned out to be the water pump going bad and dripping water on the opti causing it to run bad. I got a water pump cheap off of ebay and a Chandler Motorsports opti and it runs great now.

If you change the opti do the water pump at the same time unless you know its been replaced already

So its definitely the opti, no other explanation ?

Is there a specific engine code for bad opti?

I'd put money on it being the opti.

Pull the codes if you can borrow a scanner- doesn't sound like fun driving it to Autozone to have them scan it. Probably misfires; nice thing about OBDII LT1 cars is it'll tell you which cylinders are misfiring. If you also have opti-related codes for low resolution and/or high resolution circuit failures, then you're going to need to at least get into the opti to have a look at what's going on.

Ehhh... A single cylinder misfire is almost never an opti problem.

I'd do a little diagnostics before you start parting the car out over what is probably a spark plug wire...

Recent plug change... only one cylinder popping a code... did you check to make sure the plug didn't back out slightly and leak cylinder pressure? I'd check to make sure the plugs are tight- no offense. Multiple random misfire or 3-4 or more cylinders, I'd say opti for sure. But I think you might start with the checking the #3 plug for looseness and have another look at #3 tonight when it's dark and see if the wire arcs. You didn't mention replacing the wires. Just curious how old, what brand they are. Stock Delcos go for close to 100,000 miles if they don't get burnt.

X2 I can't tell you how many times I thought I had plugs tight only to find out the following:
1. It is not tight at all and leaking air in and out.
2. It causes a fauls lean and then causes the pcm to dump max fuel on the entire bank
3.It fouled out my O2 sensor on that bank.
Because of the way plug ports are the socket bottoms out usually 1/2 to a full turn before the pug seat contacts the plug port seat. I usually turn untill tight and then pull the socket back and thentighten it again. Out all 8 usually I get a half turn more out of 3 of them.
