Recommend me a cam

i want something choppier than the cc503 but its going in a daily driver so ive decided against a cc306. would a XE 230/236 be a good alternative? or am i going to regret putting something that big in? also, what is the actual part number for it? i cant find it anywhere. thanks

all mods are in my sig.

There is a guy on another forum with that Cam some home ported heads running mid 11's at 116 seems to be a strong runner

Call or email Lloyd Elliot.. He will custom grind a cam for you application

pillarpod 05-11-2011 06:30 AM

or AI :)

get the ai 226/234 cam...........great cam......great power........should sound pretty nasty too......

Ai 226 / 234 - .569/.570 - 110 LSA Primary Operating Range: 2000-6200rpm
This is our largest stock long-block cam for auto cars. Lopey idle, good drivability, and excellent mid-range with peak power at approximately 6200rpm. Properly tuned w/ supporting modifications, M6's typically produce 345-360rwhp SAE corrected.

Custom cam id deff the way to go

I have the 306 :bang: but its been in cars running good numbers so ill see how it goes the one you picked out would be a great choice

Camaroking1996 05-11-2011 03:29 PM

Haha^^^ but AI or Lloyd Elliot are great options for strong streetable custom cams

I am thinking about running the xe230/236 in my new motor. I could find very little about this cam, but try Google. Saw somewhere that if you think the cc503 is too small and the cc306 is too big this would be the cam to run. Thunder Racing sells it part # 63-230/236-112

5_LTR_ETR 05-11-2011 11:50 PM

good to hear some opinions! for anyone that skips through this thread, the part number from comp for the XE 230/236 is 07-467-8.

so i went ahead and ordered the cam. the biggest factor for my decision is $. which is why i didnt call llyod. I paid $313 for the cam taxes in from a local parts store up here in canada which is as cheap as it gets once you factor in shipping from anywhere in the U.S.

so, now my question is, what is necessary to make this thing go down the road without hateing myself? obviously a tune is in order... but do i NEED a stall? or gears? like i say $ is the issue over all. ive never drivin nor know anyone with a stalled car so i don't understand exactly what its like.

IronOutlaw 05-11-2011 11:54 PM

your gonna need at least a 2800 stall but Id go with a 3200-3600. You may get away with the 323s.

A stall is basically like slipping a clutch in a manual car. without a higher stall the car will buck and die at redlights.

Thats the XFI cam on XFI lobes with a 113lsa, not the 230/236 cam on xe lobes.

5_LTR_ETR 05-12-2011 08:16 PM

well shit... perhaps i should cancel my order then. can anyone help me out with the correct part number for the XE 230/236? or would the XFI be better for my street aplication? i really dont get the diffrence lsa makes, or the difference xe or xfi lobes make. starting to think im a noob all over again lol

The one you ordered has more aggressive lobes and slightly more lift. You'll need a beefier valvetrain. But it should make slightly more power (probably negligible). Did you change the lsa when you ordered it or what?

5_LTR_ETR 05-12-2011 09:08 PM

no i didnt change the lsa. i ordered 07-467-8 (280xfi) thinking it was the XE 230/236.
so now im back to square 1. I want something choppy but it needs to be relatively streetable. do i follow through with the 280xfi or cancel the order and get the XE230/236? or is there another shelf cam that will suit me better? which one of those 2 i mentioned will have a meaner sounding idle and which will be more drivable?

LSWHO 05-12-2011 09:15 PM

You probably wouldn't notice an audible difference. Both should be equally driveable. I'm dding a crazier cam.

I'd get a used gm 847 if all you really want sound. I've never heard it's equal.

Tho you'd be smarter to get a custom grind or new shelf cam from ai or le.
