Will a 586 lift cam work with stock bottom end?
Got a buddy that wants to sale me his 586 lift cam for 100 bucks. What would I have to do to my motor to run this big bastard? I'm new to cam up grading and don't know alot about what to get but this seems like a good deal right. Comes with everything

There are far more specs to a cam than just lift that determine whether or not that "big bastard" would work or not.
Not to mention the cam itself is only a small portion of the total cost of a cam install, so that $100 doesn't mean much, considering valve springs, retainers, locks, seats, gaskets, timing chain, rockers, pushrods, lifters, any other supporting mods that you don't have like CAI, exhaust, headers, etc., and MOST IMPORTANTLY, tuning.
Read the cam sticky at the top of the page.

My car has cai, mass air flow, lts, and 4.10 gears. He has everything else you mentioned added to the price. He has the cam in his car and all he knows is the lift.

I think u ask ur question wrong. You need to have heads that will flow enough for that lift. And i think the duration is just as important along with lsa. Ur car will make power but if ur heads are stock with stock exhaust u won't benefit much at All

So spend $100 on an unknown, used cam, or $300 on a cam where you know the specs and can make educated, informed decisions regarding the tuning and valvetrain parts...
Not necessarily. Plenty of cams work well with the stock heads, but there just isn't enough info here to make any educated conjectures.

That's all I needed to hear. He's goin to ask the guy he got it from mor e details but I thought maybe I could get answers with just the lift.

About ur bottom end. I think I'll be fine since with stock heads u shouldn't be able to make power very high in rpm. Search to see what rpm guys are revving to with high lift cams and stock heads. I would think that's where ur gonna stress ur motor.

With an aggressive cam you have to worry about the top end before you worry about the bottom end.
Like you have found out though, just the lift on its own is useless. It could be .586" lift with 210* duration and 114LSA and drive like stock, or it could be .586" with 260* duration and 105LSA and be a monster on the strip that needs high rpm just to idle and hardly has enough vacuum to run your brakes.
That being said, I would not run a used cam unless it came from a trustworthy, reputable source and included a cam card.
