Drove My First 6-Speed LT1 Today
So I have never owned a manual trans car, but want to some day. Sometimes I will fantasize about banging through the gears at any time of day, it will wash over me like an epiphany, like, "ahh, that's what I need!" I drive manual in the body shop and occasionally around it if I am blocked in the middle and need to get it to the other side of the shop. I've driven manuals on the freeway and in the city a handful of times and done ok. So I can do it, I just don't have much experience.
Well, my dad's friend has a 95 Formy and we went to the movies. I've known him a long time but have never seen it. He brought it to the movies today and afterwards we switched cars and drove through an empty business district. I rode in the car on the way there before we swapped and it felt fast then. Then we pulled over and he drove mine while I drove the Formula With my dad as passenger. It's stock and it actually felt fast than mine, exhaust sounded pretty sweet too for stock. I've always been disappointed with my car but when we were done driving eachothers' cars and pulled over my dad's friend said, "wow, that thing is fast. I'm surprised you don't get into more trouble with it." I said, "really? this thing actually feels faster than mine". Well either way it made me feel a little better but now I've got an even bigger manual itch than I already had.

The 6 speeds are so much fun when I was looking for a z28 it had to be six speed, I've actually never driven an automatic f body, but I would believe his dealt faster do to the fact it has the first 4 gears closer together then the 4 Gears in an automatic but what do I know just a guess

Ive owned a 6 speed and an auto now. The auto was boring when it was stock, now...not so much. The 6 speed was fun, and it did prove powerful, i would clutch drop and spin in rush hour traffic just because i was bored. It had a hurst shifter and it made a metallic brazing/grinding sound when it went into 6th which was always odd. The auto is now stalled with a 3500 stall. I find the auto a bit more fun, put the loud pedal to the floor and hang on for the ride. The Manual was much of the same but you had to let off off that little bit when shifting.
In the end i would much rather owned a stalled auto then a 6 speed. Even when i think about future cars like a C5 vette or LS1 fbody i invision a yank ss3600 instead of a 6 speed now.

I am on stock supension, stock trans, stock driveshaft, and stock 10 bolt. I haven't broken any of these parts and the car has 127k+ miles on it. Car went 11.1 which is the only clean pass I made this year. When my automatic ***** the bed, I can have it rebuilt to hold up to more power than I make with all new **** for $1200. And I don't have to replace clutches either.
Trust me, I LOVE manual cars and I would love to have a fast 6sp car, I started out driving manuals and I still enjoy driving stick cars, but for now I can't afford to race one.

After doing my cam swap , I did a stall still didnt like it, felt like i wasnt getting all the fun out of the car i could , thats why iam doing a t56 swap now . Besdies a muscle car should be manuals anyway

Also to Trike, there are plenty of stock T56s pushin 400-450 hp and around 400-430 tq. I have never driven an auto LT1 also. My T-56 takes some good abuse on a every other day basis, I'm sure the previous owner contributed nicely too, and I'm at 145k today. I have never sensed any type of malfunction. Tranny is still pristine.

Ive owned 3 auto LT1 cars and now own a T56 car. I can say that I have a lot more fun with the manual but my driving skills suffer. I can shift fine but I cant get the launch down pat. I always spin too much or bog it. With my stalled autos I could rip out of the hole. Street racing was more fun with the autos. (Im talking redlight races not 100+mph organized races.)

I have a Built T56 in the MCSS for street fun, and a MVB TH350 with a ATI 8" 4500 Stall for the track.
On the street the T56 is fun as ****, track the Auto is a rocket.
I've broken some parts in the T56 when it was stock..it's not hard to build one. I built mine and it's holding up very well.
