Competition breeds better designs... better cars.. for both camps. I welcome the new cars, its good for everyone. The only problem I have is these cars were originally the poor man's sports car (pony car to use). Prices are getting crazy... although the base offerings are still somewhat affordable.

I priced a new 5.0 on Fords website and the base price is under $30,000 and the one I built was at around $32000. Thats not too bad considering how much a brand new car costs nowadays. The Zl1 and Cobras and all other variants of these cars are rediculous though, but then again these cars actually handle and have a lot of technology in them.

Stupid ford for coming out with these new cars when everyone can buy a piece of **** 15-20 year old f-body and do the same thing.
Lol..it doesnt have to be an F-body..I have a 80's car that'll work over a Cobra without a problem..

Yeah, that's what I want.
Just remember, the LS1 platform had a rough start as well when it first debuted in the aftermarket scene, and who is to say some of the engine failures experienced weren't from a tool behind a tool?

Right. A stock one perhaps...

On stock tires maybe in a straight line. Then again the gt500 will wax it in every other category and the motor wont blow up on a monthly basis.

I enjoy tearing up the Termi's..and I've beaten newer GT500's. I'm always down for a good race.

What blows up on a monthly basis?

the new Camaro, at the moment is a fat pig from all of the technology and luxury offerings. The Mustang is a bit lighter, but still seems heavy from what the type of car it's supposed to be. Hate to say it, but to have a 650 hp car with a warranty would be nice. And can you name any other cars that have that kind of power that are under 100k....? It's a good build and all though there will be a bunch of idiot drivers out there, they drive camaro's just as much lol. Regardless, it will be a new car to have fun with win or lose. If you lose, just go back to the drawing boards and come back faster

The ZL-1 has nothing to worry about*, the freaking 750HP Shelby Supersnake is still slower than the factory rated 3.9 0-60 of the new ZL-1. It's the slowest 750 HP car you can buy (0-60 4.1 1/4mile 12.0 ET) It's just too much power for the chassis/suspension/skinny *** tires of the Cobra. At least the Camaro can put the power down and will run 315mm rear tires. It will be interesting to see how the General responds to the escalating HP wars....700 HP Vette and Camaro in the near future?! I wouldn't be surprised. (*on street tires)

Let me get this straight, your angle of attack is that the GT500 is too slow because it makes too much power?

If we are going to refer to articles, I kind of laughed at this one:

No, you missed the point completely...the Cobra cannot put down the power it has now....much less with MORE power. That's just slapping on a bandaid but does not address the real issue...no traction. All it's good for is smokey burnouts The Camaro CAN handle the HP and does it quite well (It's a CTS-V underneath). Nobody is impressed with a car that makes 200 more HP than stock; but only goes .4 faster in the 1/4 (supersnake) because it can't put down the added power... unless you're a Ford nutswinger.

Mustangs are the new Supras..good dyno numbers, but get to the track and a good Heads/Cam car will eat them up.

I came pretty close to ordering a new 5.0 and ended up buying my C6, just a tune and the autos are in the 11s. Guys are running mid to low 10s with bolt ons and blowers, the new 5.0s run their *** off. Stock IRS Supra just went 7.33 also, tube chassis Supras are also in the 6s. So they run just as good as any thing else.

Interesting. Still reads as if you think the ZL1 doesn't have anything to worry about because the Mustang is slower because it has more power, as in the new GT500 is doomed because any attempt made to harness its power is futile.
Not a Ford nutswinger. I pledge allegiance to no brand. I like performance and as of now it would appear the Coyote platform is superior in every way over GM's most recent efforts. In 1996 if the choices were between the Coyote and LSx I would've chosen Ford hands down. My purchase was heavily influenced by the C&D issue between the '96 Cobra and SS.

SS-RRR, your ending statement is so true, when people are "researching" what car to blow 60K on, they are going to look at car and driver and other magazine type articles and reviews and they always boil down to what is more comfortable/enjoyable for the reviewer to drive and what numbers look more impressive on paper.

only after we actually buy the cars is when we started to get into the whole track thing, provided we werent raised into it already.

In 2011 the 5.0 is exactly what 4th gens guys wanted the 5th gen to be, similar weight to a 4th gen, a strong solid rear axle and a motor that responds incredibly to mods, yet they hate since it's a Mustang. If it was 1996, I am sure I would have bought a 4th gen as well, they were incredible performers for the dollar.

^ This....around these parts you're either a loyal die hard chevy/gm lover, who would only consider a Camaro/Corvette even if the Cobra had 1000hp; loyal die hard Ford fan who would only consider a mustang no matter how much faster a Vette is, or you don't count (ricers, mopar guys). Maybe it's something to do with Nascar being so big here but brand loyalty is ingrained from birth

"Look that up in your Funk and Wagnalls."

This car was on the street here for a while. Was a bunch of them running around. One night a guy shows up with a Hennessey Viper. He got clobbered by one that ran 10.60's. His facial expression was great. Like what the f*ck just happened...
