LT1 vs GT
Not trying to start a war or anything, just wanted to know if an LT1 can take one of the newer GT's stock vs stock? I have heard that the LT1 wins untill the 1/4 mark, where the GT's better high end takes over. But thats just what i heard.
Thanks:

My stock LT1 has killed several stock GT's. 5.0's and 4.6's. They were from a dig and I don't think that the GT would take over on top end...unless it was a real long race In which case the good ol' 160 mph top speed should do the trick.

GTs put down around 230-240 rwhp to the ground. LT1s put down 250-260 to the ground. You should be able to kill a stock GT, you'll definitely trap higher, so all you have to do is get a better launch. The cars are pretty even though, since the 'Stangs are about 100-150 lbs lighter than our cars.

last night i beat 2 94 z-28s 3 times in a row from a 30 roll one of the guys were talkin about how he has alot of intake stuff and a chip and full exhaust and the other just said he had k&n and exhaust i beat the one with no chip by 3 cars and the one with a chip by 1 1/2 a car they both said stuff like i forgot to shift and stuff like that so i just let em off with that and i said that must have been it cause i remembered to shift almost everytime .

with my old "stock" lt1 i would beat the new mach 1, there suposed to be faster than the GT's. i think its all a mater of the condition of your car and your own driving skills..........i hate when people make up stuff about why they lost.

When GM put the 4L60E into the F-Body, it shifted electronically, and the computer controlled and managed shift points, firmness, etc. The name was changed to PCM (Powertrain Control Module) since it no longer managed the engine only. When they redesigned it they also incorporated mass airflow engine management and did away with speed density that the '92-'93s had, and did away with the ability to use aftermarket piggyback chips.
Therefore, us '94 and up LT1 drivers (and all LS1 owners) have to resort to getting our entire PCM reprogrammed for improved engine management. No chips for us...

mustang mach 1
those new mach 1, 5 SPD are really fast and will tear up a stock LT-1 IF THE DRIVER CAN RACE. I HATE MUSTANGS BUT IT'S THE TRUTH
STOCK LT-1 WILL BEAT A STOCK GT 4.6 BY ABOUT A COUPLE CAR LENGHTS.

A custom tune will always give you better results... when you buy those crappy programmers and chips, you are really paying for all the technology and expense that goes into the hardware, not the actual tune.
It cracks me up how Ford guys bust a nut when you say the C word, or mention anything about piggyback (but thats not only computer related).
Why have some company write in generic fuel maps when you can have someone who knows what they are doing tune it on a dyno for you?

Mario is correct. The only 4th gen f-body with a removable "chip" is the '93. The 94-97 LT1 cars require the use of a programmer such as those made by Hypertech. The Jet "chip" mentioned in a previous post is also a type of programmer (unless you are buying for a '93).
