Likely a fluke.
I have a stock unmodified one that you can have for $20 shipped. PM me if interested.

How high is high oil pressure?

I have seen those things hold 300 psi (where the oil filter o-ring usually squirts out).

it does have a canton pan, melling pump, canton pan style pickup.

I'm running the same pressure in mine with Mobil1 15w-50 with a Canton pan and pickup for over 14 years now and never had that issue. As stated before it's likely a fluke and a bad part. Happens all the time with various other parts, just get a new one and test it out.
