Biggest cam for 383 I'm looking at upgrading the cam on my 383 .heads are untouched as well as the intake that will come later.i was told by previos ownr it has a costom grind cam. That I will need to replace obviouSly springs, and pushrods. Is this correct? I dnt know much about lt1s as I know about ls.my question is what would be the biggest cam for dd use and good power. What are u 383 guys running? Or ltx players? Thanks alot for looking |

Do the heads before or while you worry about the cam. |
yea very true.so i should 1st get the heads ported ? then go on with upgrading cam |
Have them both done at the same time. Go with www.advancedinduction.com - terrific results and workmanship. |
what he said ^ |
The only way I would do the cam first is if someone gave you a cam and set of springs. |

Ok, so did they guy that sold you the car say the car had a "383 STROKER" and the heads/intake are untouched? You might want to look into that. Not saying its NOT a 383, but its pretty rare someone builds a motor and doesnt touch the top end... Something to think about. |

It is pretty routine that guys chase displacement and neglect the topend, happens every day. Just that when those guys come to the forums they get told how wrong that is. |
A big cube engine with poor top end flow is like taking a drinking a 24oz beer through a straw. Doesn't matter if its a 12oz or a 24oz you're still only getting the same amount. Ever heard of Volumetric Efficiency? Part of it is a engine of 350 cubes say is 85% VE. That means it can only take in 37ci of air instead of 43ci 350 cubes will hold. This is why CNC stock heads will net you more horsepower. It helps get more air in the cylinder to use the cubes you already have. What size of nitrous are you using to push a 383 with stock heads and a small cam into 10.6? |

If the guy had an engine assembled like that he probably didn't do any good picking the heads anyway. |
Running 10.60's on nitrous with that car, i'm assuming it's a mid-11 car N/A. I really doubt those heads are stock if that is the case. |
