My header gasket is blown on the drivers side of the engine. Could this be causing the lag in the upper rpms (4-5800)? My car is also cammed and I'm getting it dyno tuned after I replace the gaskets/bolts. Could that help the problem? When I get it tuned I'm thinking about going with open headers. Thoughts on that. Also what are good gears for an auto? And how much will they cost for parts+labor Thanks!

Only one way to find out if it's causing the "lag"....fix it! I had a leaky problem header gasket....mainly just a loud annoyance that made it sound like ***. Also, it can cause false lean condition due to O2 getting in the exhaust and making the PCM and sensors go crazy...dumping gas. Get some Earl's pressure masters....they work. Need more details on this "lag"...exhaust note change? misfire? clogged cat? Open headers are way too loud for street driving. 3.73 gears end of discussion....+/- $300 for installation.

I'm not sure about the lag when I get to about 4500 it will pause for a half second, jump to 4800 pause for another half second and keep doing that til I hit the limiter and it shifts. The car vibrates when it is lagging.

3.73s are good for a auto. My gears plus a rebuild kit it came out to a little over $420.00 (also what brand you go with will make a difference). Labor just depends on what shop you go to. One shop told me $450.00 for labor but i had a friend hook me up with another dude and did it for $100

Holy *****. Next time I need new gears, even with shipping it'd save me money shipping the diff... Around here the reputable shops want a grand (including gearset).

Fix that header leak right away first of all. And then get the car tuned, it's not gonna run at it's potential especially being cammed with the stock tune.

Don't run open headers, it's annoying and doesn't do really anything for performance that much. I ran mine open for a few weeks while I was saving up for my exhaust and let me tell you, it got really annoying after awhile and I would wake the neighbors when i'd come home late.

Im doing a spool and gear swap right now. Labor quotes have been anywhere from 150-275. Install kits run around 100 and gears about 200. As for what size gear to get a 3.73 is a good all around gear but it depends on a lot of other things and your plans for down the road with the car. Im putting in a 3.54 to match my tire and HP level.
As for the leak.
It def could be causing issues since the O2s are seeing unmetered air and trying to compensate for it.

Just had Motive 4.56's installed after my Richmonds crapped out. Will keep you in mind next time around though.
