hedman husler's? Was watching the sonoma nationals, and saw a sponsorship for hedman husler headers. Googled them and jegs actually carries them for 93-97 camaro's. Anyone running these or have any input on them? |
I think the only ones they carry are the stepped 1 7/8 stuff. You have to have !heater box and either manual rack, fancy flaming river steering U-joint or some TLC on a primary. |
They also have 1 7/8" with adapter plates with the Stahl bolt pattern. Only source I know of for off the shelf 1 7/8" headers for this Gen F body. That's what I have on mine. Spark plug access is terrible! Much nicer made than Hookers, all TIG welded. Hookers look like my wife welded them up with a torch and coat hangers for rod. Did I mention spark plug access sucks? LOL |
TPIS longtubes have excellent plug access, but are only 1 3/4". I can change all my plugs from the top only having to remove the alternator for access. I still have heat/AC. I can understand Ed seeing the difference 1/8" makes in primary diameter, but doubt 99% of LT1 users would ever notice.....or that it hurt the power of "most" LT1 builds. |
Mike V runs those and he had to cut the #1 pipe off and modify it to clear the steering shaft. For the price of them they should bolt up with no issues. |
Lemon's has the jig for fourth gens and will make any size header with any steps you want. Not the cheapest things ever, but when going for non off the shelf parts like 1-7/8-2" stepped you don't have many options. Keep in mind no matter what brand you go with, with big primaries things like plug access and clearance is not going to be as simple as with plain old pacesetters. You'll also most likely need flange adapters. I'm pretty sure both N20Dave and Sikora both ran Lemon's IIRC. Total overkill for 99% of cars and may do more harm then good, but that is another discussion...Dave's were something crazy like straight 2" :eek2: |
Header tube size has a lot to do with how much power your making and your RPM range. My #2 engine likes 1 3/4"-1 7/8" steps. (Crap heads, crap (SRP) pistons & rings & stock intake) #1 engine likes straight 1 7/8" so much better I'm going to try bigger. May not like them. Only way to know is on-track testing. Can't go by the dyno with headers. If the dyno doesn't like bigger you can bet the car won't. If the dyno does, the car still may not. Been there before. |
