Default Pro Touring LT1

So I sold my pro charged 5.0 because i spun a rod bearing. I decided to start fresh with a Chevy since im original a chevy guy. For this build im planning on doing a daily driver that can do some pro touring as its hobby. A motor that will see high rpm, shifting, tight corners is my goal. Ive got the suspension in order. Now what about the motor?! Lightweight everything, solid roller, shaft mount is planned and Nitrous & boost in the far future, but for now im staying N/A. Who builds LT1's that can handle lots of abuse at the track and drive the thing home like a prius? Ive decided to stay LTx for the cost. Plus I heard swaps alone cost as much as the a built motor its self. Recommendations would be great. Thanks Hopefully this will be funner then the ford. from my ford friends Ive heard nothing but **** talk for LT's and I just roll my eyes. Time to show them whos BOSS.

A healthy 396 with ported trickflows will get you there. You also need a new rear end.

There is a SICK road race LT1 on this site with an awesome looking build that I would suggest you search for, but I'm pretty sure the first response from the pro touring and road race guys will be questions about your suspension and chassis setup since that is just as important as the motor in that kind of build.

For an "easy" 500rwhp through a 6 speed I would look at AFR 227s, quality shaftmounts (DRE, Jesel, COMP,etc), custom high end pushrods (Manton, Smith Brothers, or Trend), and a solid roller cam spec'd by someone who knows what they are doing - it will need to be aggressive enough to make your 500rwhp goal, but not as aggressive as a drag racing spring eater lobe. Top it off with a single plane like a ported Vic Jr or Supervic and either an elbow+58mm monoblade or a 4bbl TB.

396 will make it easier, but 383 will do it to. I like the 227s for that build because they will work out of the box and not need any additional work. For more power or boost like you want in the future you can have them ported later on...and then the sky(and your wallet) is the limit.

***EDIT*** Note that I said "easy", and not "cheap"...

^^^^^Would you happen to have a link to the LT1 road race build you speak of?

396 LT1 gets my vote!!! It aint cheap though, Callies Dragonslayer 3.875 crank , Howards Billet 5.85 rods & bearings for em cost me 2065 Custom Nitrous or Boost pistons from Diamond or JE are gonna cost you a grand anyway you cut it!! IF you comb the parts for sale you can find heads thatll work for a build like this! Theyll need to flow 300+ cfm... A solid roller in the 242 @ .05 .6xx BUT it aint gonna drive like a ****** Prius LMAO Then youll need Trans & Clutch upgrades Plus a S60 rear diff Thatll getcha started Build the suspension & get another shortblock to build So you can have wheels Once you build that your gonna need a Prius to save Gas LoL

Please redirect me or the link to that road race. Would be interesting to read. Ive contacted Detroit Speed and they have the green light on a custom 93-02 F-body set-up. they dont get very many requests for 4th gens.

Anybody done 370ci's? stroke 3.626 with a .030 bore. A 396 or 383 sounds nice though. Wouldn't that be limiting my revs though? Spinning a SBC 396 to 7200+rpms is asking for lots of rotational mass resulting in decrease engine longevity?! You guys are LT1 pros so let me know who here has spun a 396 over 7000+rpms. Anyways if its built right no matter the cubes and taken care of it should last.

A 396 with a 3.875" stroke is fairly normal, the stroke isn't the first thing that will limit your 7200 rpm goal, the stock PCM can't go over 7000. You would need a 24x setup (do a search). Quik95z spins 8000+ and puts down well over 500rwhp through an auto and a 9". Joelster has a 4" crank with 4.060 bore making it a 414, on a stock PCM and it's a street car, making around 490rwhp.

My combo should peak around 6800 with a 25x/26x @ .05 .6xx Solid Roller So the 242 @ .05 will be close to that IF it wants more I guess I will need to Upgrade to an aftermarket set up Torque will sling you out of the corners With a 383 or 396 that larger solid roller cam will be more streetable More stroke is a good thing Theres no replacement for displacement!!! With a 3.6x crank that 25x duration cam will wanna spin to the moon Where the 3.875 will move the RPM down lower IT will hit the stock 7k limiter though LoL

How many cubes?

With a mid 250s cam and good heads you will still be pulling at 6800 with a 383.

Sorry, it was a while back and I don't remember his username.

Was a blue car with pin on hood, all the duct work , and custom ram air setup. Very clean.

SS Alek's car had a 355 SR with LT4s making right at the power level the OP wanted, may want to look in to that as well.

[QUOTE=Puck;16733025]How many cubes?

396 I wouldnt use a cam that big on a 355 for a street toy Cam Motions says the cam is good for 3000-7200 in a 350 LT1 So with 2 sizes bigger on the stroke the power will be lower hence my guess of 6800 LOL Plus I seen a similar combo that was close

I believe i saw that Jon A's car either in GMHTP or a Road Race mag awhile back. He really has that car setup. We could really learn some stuff from that suspension. Know doubt.

I've seen that before, definetly an awesome car. Too bad most of the links on that page are dead.
