LT1 cars value's

This isnt really tech related...but has anyone else noticed that people on craigslist are asking insane amounts for pos LT1's?

I could post 5 right now that would make people say WTF?!?

Cars with huge dents in the quater panels, body panels that are mismatched, interiors that are just totally destroyed, not to mention the cars that run but need transmission work. People still want upwards of 3000 to 3500 for these cars.

I saw an auto car with a salvage title for 4200$.

The only lt1 deals Ive seen latly was a blk/blk 6 speed 92 vette with 125k on it for 5500, and a procharger p1sc kit w/500mi on it for 2100$.

I get people can ask what they want to ask, and if they get it then more power to them, but this shit is getting a little rediculous.

Same thing could be said about the LS cars now. I have seen SS's for 13k. I could buy a C5 for that much.

CamaroRacing12 Sep 17, 2012 07:19 PM

people are retards

trilkb Sep 17, 2012 07:20 PM

yep.... I dont get it. Is there really that big of a demand?

it screws it up for those of us who are just looking for a body! lol

EdgarB Sep 17, 2012 07:22 PM

They got a 3'fiddy in them thats why! also you can donk them out!!!

RamAir95TA Sep 17, 2012 07:24 PM

Only us enthusiasts realize how worthless these cars really are. Everyone else doesn't understand.

TexasTarnation Sep 17, 2012 08:31 PM

Finally someone else noticed!!! I've seen the crappiest cars on CL overpriced. Hell I bought my Z28 2 years ago for 7500 cash and I still see Z28s going for 9k with higher mileage and less mods than mine.

93 LT1 Vette Sep 17, 2012 08:32 PM

1993's are almost 20 years ago. Were approaching collector status. LOL

Sadly, there is a lot of truth to this. On every "enthusiast" board I've belonged to over the past decade, the "enthusiasts" always seem to want to pay significantly less for a given car than the open market. I have yet to figure out why this is true.

I've sold 3 third gens in the past 18 months. All were great, turnkey cars. All had their hecklers when I posted them on camaroz28.com and thirdgen.org. And yet, over the course of 3 sales, I knocked a total of $250 off the list price of one of them.

I didn't ask a mint, but I did ask more than what the know-it-all "enthusiasts" claimed I could get...yet all were sold in less than 20 days on the market. Right now, I feel LT1 cars represent a pretty damn good deal for what you get.

5-6k for a v8 car isnt that much. its not a 89 honda civic. Good potential never comes cheap. look on autotrader. plenty of LT & LS cars under $5000 no one is going to sell a classic car for cheap because soon those cars are going to be worth more.

BoostedSol Sep 17, 2012 09:56 PM

This doesn't hold true for Michigan cars, I will definitely say that much. It's kind of depressing really, I haven't seen an LT F-body listed over $4,000 on craigslist in a while. I've even seen 6 speeds listed for $2,000. Best I could ever get for my car is probably $3,500, maybe $4,000 with my rims and tires. So for that fact I'm probably never going to sell it unless value jumps. I couldn't get anything close to as nice as my car for the price its worth.

Around the midwest, private party seems to be like this:

LT1 car with 150k+ miles, needs work $3,000
LT1 car with 125kish, decent condition $4,000
LT1 car with 100k or less, needs work $4,500
LT1 car with 100k or less, decent condition $5,000-6,500
LS1 car with 150k+ miles, needs work $5,000
LS1 car with 125ish miles, decent condition $5,000-6,500
LS1 car with less than 100k miles, needs work $6,500-8,000
LS1 car with less than 100k miles, decent condition $9,000-11,000

Add about 40% markup to any of these prices if it's a WS6 or SS car.

Add another 25-50% markup if it's at a dealership, depending on mileage/dealership retardation.

picked mine up for 1000 bucks and drove it 550 miles.... the car failed inspection where the seller lived but i dont need to pass, but it is in decent shape no rust and has over 700 bucks in tires that he put on two months before he sold it... they come up cheap but you have to get to them fast

South Park reference?

Sold my 97 WS6 with 109k on the clock for $5k. It had been for sale for nearly a year at the KBB value of $6,500. To think people pay more than the car is worth is just stupid to me

TwoFast4Lv Sep 18, 2012 02:00 PM

I love how eveyone wants one but no one wants to pay for one. I have had my car since 97 so most of this crap means nothing to me.

Then again our cars are not beat to shit heaps and we regularly get offered much more then most on this board would pay for them ;)

You guys ever notice because every one want a good deal most will list much higher just to get what they really want out of it so some idiot thinks they got a good deal LOL!

We turned down 10 grand on this car just the other day!

Just your average everyday 11 second daily driver with 160k on the clock ;)

I dont think everyone asks a rediculous amount, some cars are priced accordingly to their condition. Most of those cars are the ones that have been maintained and still look good and are also running and driving with no major issues. Someone putting a price tag on say a 95 z28 with good paint and 120k, no major problems at all..I could see 4000 or so for it.

My problem is shit like this...

Another fine example

http://indianapolis.craigslist.org/cto/3220761091.html

Then there are people with their heads on straight like this seller..

When it comes to Camaros/Firebirds people usually raise the price some and will add, "CORVETTE MOTOR". Because it has a Corvette motor it's gotta be worth that extra money. Every Camaro for the past 20 years has had a Corvette motor in it.

camar0corey Sep 18, 2012 06:13 PM

I actually think all three of those links are off their tree.

I bought my one owner, 96k miles, bone stock, 94 six speed Z28 in 2003 for $4500. The car needed nothing.
