Default V6 Lid Base & Pin-On Hood Questions...

First off is the V6 base on the '98+ F-bodies the same as the V8s?

And does anyone make an stock SS style pin on hood? I'm thinking about getting the "Wide Sunoco" hood, but I really prefer the look of the SS hoods.

I have some plans to shed some weight this winter and do a ram air setup with the lid. I'm going to remove the fog lights and make some ducting that will run to the bottom of the lid and hopefully gain some power.

Any help is appreciated

I have done some searching and haven't come up with any info if the V6 and V8 lid bases are the same. In pics they are similar but its hard to say.

You can pick up a V6 lid & base for about $35 but the V8 stuff is a lot more expensive. And I want to try something a little different and feel a lot better about possibly ruining something that costs $35 than something that cost $75+

Guess I'll be a guinea pig and get one coming

The lower part of the V6 is identical to the V8, the differance is in the upper lid ad the TB is off to the side...... Lower stock boxes are usually pretty cheap to come buy, and I litterally just gave away my stock ws6 upper lid for the price of shipping, "i actually lost 3 bucks to be technical"....... I had a Z28 and a V6 side by side, and my WS6 as well to compare....the only differance in teh SS/WS6 vs the v6's is the opening is larger to accomodate the "ram air" Hope this helps

The closest yard that has f bodies to me is about 3-4 hours away. I have seen them go on ebay for $35-$40 shipped for the whole assembly.

Thanks for the reply

I've had several things go like that, and the part that really sucks is the ones who bought the parts that end up costing me money to get rid of are the first ones to complain about something.

I don't know of any pin-on LT1 SS hoods. It seems like there were pin-on LS1 (narrow) style SS hoods for 93-97 available at one time, but I just don't like the look of those. Have you thought of buying a cheap bolt-on hood and cutting as much of the underside out as possible to lighten it?

Oh my buyer was A+++ but i totally could see that.

Oh and you win some you lose some, I wouldn't have done it for a non tech member, i would have thrown it in the trash first.....

I have been searching like crazy and have only found that Glasstech makes a pin-on LT1 SS style hood. VFN makes the 3" SS hood, but its shaped like the LS1 SS hood and looks awkward IMO on our cars, I wish that they had a 3" version of the LT1 SS hood, that might look pretty good

Now I want to see how much the Glasstech hood weighs vs the VFN, the VFN is 15#s
