Selling the car, here's the plan...

Well, I've decided to finally get rid of my LT1. I've got her running as a solid daily driver, so I'mg oing to get the paint on the frontend touched up and sell her for as much as I can get. I'm planning on buying another LT1, preferably an M6 OBDI hardtop/t-top car. I plan on purchasing a car for around 5-6k with <100k miles on her (don't really care much about the miles since it'd be a summer only car and I'll be building a 396 in a few years anyhow)

The first month of owning the new LT1, I'd be using the extra money to buy a Moser 9" (31-33 spline) with some 4.11s right off the bat and not have to worry about replacing the weak ass 7.5"/10-bolt it later. The rest would go to LT4 heads and intake, and then porting for them. And an AS&M 58mm TB. I'd install the 9" right away, and leave the heads/intake/TB off the car until I did a full exhaust, intake, and cam.

I'm planning on going with Jet Hot longtubes, Mufflex 3" Y-Pipe, and a GMMG catback. Cam wise, it'll probably be a GM 847, Crane gold 1.6 rockers, and dual coil springs. Would I need new lifters? If it was a vented opti it'd also get a double timing chain, if it wasn't it'd be converter to a vented opti.

I'd eventually set the car up with either an NX or TNT wet nitrous kit, keep the jetting at no more than a 100 shot... after this would just be some suspension mods (LCAs and torque arm) and some slicks.

Well, that's the plan for now. I'd like to hear all of your suggestions. What spline would be better for the 9" and why? What else would I need that I'm not thinking of? Also (I know everybody hates this question, but here it is) where do you think I would be power wise, and what kind of times would this setup run/trap?

Thanks guys

I hate to hear your selling her...but she sounds like a bitch. At least your getting another LT1...let me know how it goes. The plans you have for the new LT1 sounds a little familiar

A) Well selling your car sucks :bomb:
B) Coming out with a vengance ...now that's kewl
C) Crane 847 :usa: your gunna love it
D) Crane's 99893 double springs are a great match with room to grow for this cam.
E) Yes, go with Comp R's or comparable, allow you to spin higher conifident rpm on a hyd cam.
F) For the money I'd get AFR heads vs LT4 but LT4s are better than the LT1s at least.
G) Good combo on the exhaust, love the GMMG myself.
H) On motor no bottle I'd say you could hit very low 12s and I know your gonna laugh when I say "DO THE SUSPENSION MODS DUDE" :jest: ...but then you could hit high 11s with.

Now for your stroker, ......go SOLID ROLLER all the way dude  ...the 847 will be a baby cam at that point
:drive:

 No, I'd be doing the 9" as my very first mod, for the very reason that I could go all out with suspension mods and slicks and not have to worry about breaking the rear. Thanks for the comments :)

guys, I was just offered $9500 for my car. Do you think I should take it or no?

BizZzatch350 Apr 28, 2004 02:08 AM

Man, I really cant see why you want to sell your blower car and start over. I'd just mod the blower car and make it even faster. I started with a dead stock 93 with 41K miles. I wish I would have gotten a bolt on car so I could move right in to the motor.

You'd say that until you started modding... it's not the same when you buy a project car. There's just something that sucks really bad about not going through and doing all the work yourself. I'd rather have those experiences with my next car. I'm the type that doesn't mind installing bolt-ons, I can and have enjoyably worked on a car for 8-10 hours.

Well guys, the car is almost sold. I was offered 10 G's today for the car, I'm going to be taking it to an auto-body shop and getting an estimate on the front-end paint damage, subtracting that from the total, and it should be sold. I'll keep all yas posted... :D

PS- What would you guys say is the best place to buy a 9"

Yea, I know. I just wanted to post anyways :D . Thought, JUUUUUST MAAAYYYBE!!! ;)
On the axels, I'd get the 33 slpine. The more splines means the bigger the axel and the stronger the axel!!!

Yes, but that also means more power loss...

Going from a 31 to a 33 spline axel your gonna lose what....MAYBE 1-2 rwhp? That'll NEVER be noticed. It's DEFINATELY worth the money to get the 33 spline axels.

Just Floor It May 12, 2004 07:45 PM

Well, you've pretty much 3 basic spline axles....

31-Good for pretty good power...
33-Good for even more power...
35-Good If yor gunna spray off the line...

Personally, beings you are gettings 4.xx GEARS Id say the 33s, but If your gonna spray off the line, then probably 35s...

What's a good place to buy a 9" from?

Honestly I'm probably going with 33-spline, at least.

It's months away still, but I checked Racenet and they've got a Moser 9" but only available in 31 and 35 spline. I'll start a new thread pretty soon about it.

OneMeanZ May 13, 2004 06:52 AM

There's a bone stock LT1 for sale near my house....

The Big Show May 14, 2004 10:58 AM

Sounds like your fixing to waste more money than what you started with since you say its gonna be a while before you build another motor. Unless you find something low mile, and I mean real low mile that was well taken care of, your going to end up with a car parked in the garage that you can't drive cause its broke on jackstands. Modding a high mileage car that you know little history on is like playing russian roulette.
