Help; Car won't start again/VIDEO Had this problem before with the car not starting. Messed around with stuff and removed an aftermarket alarm and all of a sudden it started working. Have driven it about 20 miles since then getting it registered and now it won't start again. Below is a video trying to start it this morning. Car is a 94 Z28. Battery is starting to get weak from multiple attempts. Car ran fine, except for a slight miss at idle. Everything was fine under load. Check out the video and let me know what you think. Thanks. |
Pulled serpentine belt thinking maybe an accessory was locked up; but made no change. Still will not start |
Would something with the VATS cause it to do this? Previous owner installed a resistor and maybe the resistor is going bad or lose. |

Where is the puffs of smoke coming from when you're trying to start the engine? It almost sounds like it is having a timing issue (maybe caused by a bad opti). I would also look at the elbow and make sure it does not have a tear in it. Unplug the M.A.F. sensor to eliminate it possibly being an issue. Last but not least, does it have any trouble codes? |
Smoke is coming from the throttle body. It was doing this when I first got the car so I pulled an aftermarket security system and it fired right up. Now after starting fine for a few weeks it has acted up again and won't start now. The SES light goes off as does all other lights. I don't have a OBD I reader so I can't check for codes. I have the entire intake (before TB) off including MAF and it still won't start. |
I believe that it is now electrical below the steering column. I was jiggling the wires below the column while cranking and it started up. Now it is starting every time. So I'm going to try and find a loose connection or bad wire. |
Any LT1 guys know which wire behind the drivers knee panel would case the no start condition in the video? To help track which wire it is. |
It looks as though it's trying to run backwards. As stated, most likely is a timing issue. Your opti rotor probably has come loose. |
Starting after wiggling some wire under the steering column. The blue connector that goes into the ignition switch had one clip on and the other clip off. So I'm hoping it was only it. Gonna keep looking her over. |
You may have found your no start problem, but has your engine always kicked back like that? Like stated above, you may have a timing/opti issue about to arise. Mine did that when the cam pin wasn't in the right opti slot. |
I have only had the car for about a month and it was not running when I bought it so I honestly have no idea how long it has done it. I'll just have to keep an eye on it. Right now it has a slight miss at idle but once driving everything is fine. |
