A friend of mine has an '08 5 speed GT with nothing but a catback and I have a '96 SS m6 with LT headers and catback and its a drivers race. Every time we race it is honestly neck and neck. Half the time he has me by a nose the other half I have him by a nose. We both have had our cars dynoed and he has +4 hp on me but I've got +4 tq on him.

That year Mustang was 300 to the flywheel, AND the LT1 was underrated that 285 was more like 310

im not calling you a liar or anything..but is there any proof of this? like a dynoed stock lt1 pushing at least 300hp to the wheels?

Dude where are you getting this "to the wheel" stuff from? all numbers are FLYWHEEL HORSEPOWER...

my bad i thought you were saying the lt1 was getting 310 to the wheels..about how much power do you use through the drive train? for example the 3v is 300hp to the crank, would you get at least 280 to the wheels?

Each time I've raced '05-10 Mustang GT's I've always beat them, but I have some bolt-ons of course.

Stock for stock, its a driver's race really. Anybody who tells you differently is either ignorantly guessing or has a bias one way or another. They're both low 14 second/high 13 second cars. LT1 car has a bit less HP, but a bit more torque and the weight advantage as well. In stock form, an M6 car has a hair more potential but less consistency.

Drivetrain loss typically falls into the 15-20% area, depending on rotating mass in the driveline (biggest factory usually being auto or manual transmission. Autos typically have more drivetrain loss)

Mustang hands down. LT1s couldn't beat a fiat these days.

My car dyno'd 281/323 stock. I raced an '07 GT Auto a few years ago and handed his *** to him. It's usually a drivers race.

If you're spending 9K on an LT1 you're doing it wrong. You can get a clean LS1 car for that and really hand a 3V it's ***.

I'm not sure about 3v prices but that LT1 better be a museum piece if they're asking that much IMHO you shouldn't base what you want on speed alone. These cars are different animals. I haven't driven one but I'd imagine the 3v to be more refined feeling. The LT1 is louder, and has a much different engine tone. It's more of a deep rumble, whereas the mod motors sound weird to me.

Anyways, stock for stock it's a driver's race. But everyone knows Mustang guys can't drive so you'll win everytime (just kidding of course)

Do you have links to both cars? That is a lot of money for a 17 year old car. You could get a decently modded car out of the classifieds of various cars for that money and, pending the car/owner, be much better off.

Probably the mustang honestly everything else equal....13.8@ 103 was stock for those, a ram air SLP/SS/WS6 LT1 f-body with 305-315hp would probably take it....If you said 1999 Cobra 4 valve, those "320 HP" engines were over-rated, Ford had to recall them quite embarrassingly because was not making advertised HP....I think they learned their lesson because of that. I hurt a couple Cobra owner feelings with just exhaust/intake on my stock LT1 way back in the day. With manual trans as mentioned, it's all about the driver really.
