Default lt1 longtube headers/true duels

looking to do longtubes on a 94 lt1 firebird formula. was looking at the new speed engineering kit. would also like to run true duels instead of a ypipe/single. question is do i have to run an x or h pipe, or can i just run pipes off the headers all the way back? thanks guys.

Why not just dump them in front of the axle? Might be a bit loud for a DD, but less weight, easier, and probably sound pretty nasty, mufflers optional! Also cheaper!

You could want some sort of crossover to help with scavenging, it will probably run like crap otherwise. X > H.

H pipes make low end torque which is good. Don't think you have to have it though. Dumps without sometype of muffler would be annoyingly loud!

Might gain a few hp with a x or h pipe but it is not necessary.

I had an old 79 T/A I used to run header mufflers back in Indiana. They bolted right up to the collectors and I had them dump before the rear axel. Worked great and would do again if not for state inspection in Texas.

This is how I had my 79 formula, two turbo mufflers that bolted directly to the collectors. Sounded fantastic! wish there was room under the 4th gen to do that, but I don't think they'd fit there.
