Default 96 LT1 no oil top of motor

Just got the 1996 LT1 we put into a 95 Firebird running. Engine sounds good, new GM performance cam kit, with new lifters. Put motor together about 6 months ago and its just been sitting till now. I've got 15 oil pressure at idle and it jumps up to 45 when you give some throttle. Went to check valve lash just to make sure, and no oil in top of motor. Pushrods were cleaned when motor was put together. Any ideas would help.

thanks

It often takes a long time to get oil up top on a new one. Hopefully you poured some oil on the valvetrain beforehand.

Assembly lube still on everything. It ran for at least a total 40 minutes. Long enough to open thermostat and get rid of all air by bleeder. Every now and then one would start to show a slight oil but not enough

40 minutes at what RPM? I noticed that the Golen engines startup procedure says that it might take 20 minutes for lifters to fully pump up and that is with the engine running at a continuous 2000 RPM. If you are seeing some oil, it is starting to get there. LT1s aren't noted for copious amount of oil coming out of the top of the pushrods (like some older SBCs).

Yup back in the day you would get an oil bath adjusting the lash, smoke you out with the oil burning on the headers , but with my LT, it didn't even overflow from the head

QFT, lol

When I put comp pro magnum 1.6 RR's on mine I could not get much oil to come through up top. Put the stock ones back on and the oil flow was back to normal. It ended up being a bad set of rockers in my case.

Only if the oil pump was not put on.

I managed to make a big oily mess while adjusting valve lash with the car on. I have Harland Sharps.

Mine was slow too. LS7 lifters. Oil just barely dribbles out once it does start. My old school Chevy's give you a bath with the valve covers off.

could be a few different problems. make sure lifters are pumped up, oil holes in rockers are clear, and when all else fails, make sure the oil pump pickup didnt come loose.
