Default My new 96 z28

Day I bought her.

383 stroker, paxton supercharged, and many more mods.

Pearlescent paint

So I just picked up my first chevy, I'm not a big chevy fan, but this 4th gen caught my eye. The paint is awesome, of course there's a lot of chips and some scratches... but overall the paint looks awesome! So moving on to under the hood, it has a 383 stroker accompanied by a paxton supercharger, it also has a mild cam. This car was built in Cali, from the paint to the engine, not sure what suspension or tranny in it, but it's some kind of built tranny the last owner told me. It is an automatic but it's almost as fun as a stick, it shifts very viciously into 2nd hard enough to turn the wheels over and it's an auto ! The rear wheels have 15" Mickey Thompson drag radials. It also has some kind of bigger fuel pump and injectors.... this car is definetly a miles per smile type of car, as I think it's getting at most 13 mpg.... but that could be from my lead foot .... I know I'm forgetting quite a bit of other mods.... Anyways only 70k miles on it, and I only paid 3.4k the guy originally wanted 5.5k I got really lucky. Of course there are somethings wrong with it, such as a small exhaust leak coming from the front of the car, the drivers window doesn't roll down, inside cosmetics are somewhat missing(somethings). Oh yes and there is a boost retard, and a shifter plus button to make it shift even harder into 2nd.

Anyways loving the car so far, but need to fix that exhaust leak...

Oh ya and I don't know how much HP the car currently is making, I was told by the last owner the supercharger needs rebuilt as it's not pushing as much as it should be anymore, it should be pushing 8 but it's probably not pushing 9 anymore and it's a 450 dollar kit.

Anyways I think it's probably making at least 400 HP probably closer to 500.

And those oil leaks on the ground under the car aren't from the camaro. it's from the dodge stealth I own.

Thanks Eddie, I've also been wondering can I run it on super unleaded? Or should I be using higher octane? It says unleaded fuel only on the dash...

"Super unleaded"? What octane are you talking about? LT1s need premium, 91 octane MINIMUM, obviously you want to put the best gas available in your area to avoid detonation, this is VERY important on a boosted car.

If it is a Cali car and being a 383 supercharged motor than it has a aftermarket tune. The highest octane you get in Calif is 91 (unless you buy 100 octane race gas at a few select stations).

get the exhaust leak fixed as it will FU your tune causing the PCM to dump fuel if the leak is pre CAT

It's not in Cali anymore, it was built by the first owner in Cali and now it's in Iowa.

Here in Iowa we usually have Super Unleaded, Unleaded, and Premium. I'm not sure what the octane levels are on them.

You've got some old school speed parts under the hood. I think I see "Versa Fueler" You have three Big injectors in front of the throttle body to help with the fuel needs of the motor. This was done at the time b/c we didnt have any big injectors larger then 36lb. Usually the three injectors were like high imp 80lb or something stupid like that.

Now you dont need anything like that. Some 60lb injectors with the correct intank pump would be fine. Cool **** though.

Put it on a dyno or take it to the track and lets see what it's really doing. Ill say...330rwhp and 13.4 1/4 mile just from what I can see and you've said.

LOL....you either are blind as a bat or aren't looking, the Federal Trade Commission REQUIRES every gas station to clearly label the octane rating on each pump with a yellow sticker; I've never been to any gas station on the east coast that does not show octane rating.

I don't see an intercooler either which isn't helping the situation.....bad things WILL happen if you cheap out on the gas!

I just dont pay much attention, i think super is 89 octane and premium here is 91 i believe. And ya this car was built a while ago. And I bet at least 400 hp. I'll probably get it dynoed after i rebuild the supercharger and fix the exhaust leak.

I think the wording is different depending on the location. Usually super is premium and plus is mid-grade. IIRC Colorado premium is 89 if I'm not mistaken.

Nope here super is 89, unleaded or reg is 87, and premium is 91. I just filled it with 91 today.
