Some opti troubles any help appreciated
Hey everyone, inherited a problem car from the father in-law. basically the engine was knocking in his 93 z28 so he put in a 96 lt1 he found on craigslist. engine turns he took the pan off and looked and everything looks ok, however it cranks, no start with no spark.
Tested the ignition system and did the tests on shbox.com, comes to be the opti isn't sending signal to the icm to fire the coil.
So im kinda at a loss here, it seems there are three different timing covers, one for the non vented opti which the car originally had, one for a vented non obd2 opti, and one for a vented obd2 car, which the car currently has.
However it has a 93 pcm and harness, so in order to get this car the hell out of my garage, what exactly needs to be done? Swap over to a 95 timing cover and get an opti and harness for a 95 and get the vacuum hoses in order? Or would leaving the crank sensor unplugged on the timing cover not cause an issue and just use a 96 opti?

95-97 optis are the same. That is what you would need if that is really your problem and need to replace it (since you now have a 96 engine). First, make sure you are using a 95-97 opti electrical harness and not the 93s. It won't reach the pins on the vented opti. You don't need to worry about timing covers or crank sensor.
