Where to measure VATS Ohm value without ignition key.
So I got tired of my car rotting away, the keys were lost when it was in storage and I hadn't really looked for replacements until today. Luckily I found blanks for $9 apiece but I need to know where to measure the resistance value for the VATS in my car. Can it be read at the cylinder lead or somewhere else?
Also, I was wondering if I were to remove the lock cylinder - could a locksmith then cut the keys to match?
Thanks.

It's measured on the little black "chip" that is on the key. I would buy an assortment of resistors and get the ohm readings for the 15 different chips that gm used. Then start at 1 and go to 15 changing the resistors until you find the correct resistance.
