Default used cheap hot cam or a good new cc503?

I bought my first T/A a few months ago, have catback exhaust, intake, jet performance stage 2 chip, short throw 105K miles M6 for $3300! My plan is TSP headers and ORY, the usual bolt ons. The problem is I missed out on a CC503 cam on CL and found a hot cam and RR for $200 which is a hell of a deal, but i don't like the hot cam as much as the CC503, head and intake porting is still up in the air.
Are aftermarket heads worth buying or should I buy a pair from a scrap yard and have them port and polished? I try to do research first as much as possible but I'm not finding much on aftermarket heads with a 503 and stock bottom end. This is my DD so if I have port and polishing done a 2nd set of heads is necessary.
It's all about power goals I'd like to see 350RWHP any more is just icing on the cake

I don't see anything wrong with buying a used hydraulic roller cam assuming there are no grooves or strange wear. If the lobes/journals are smooth and the oil pump drive isn't chewed it will be fine.

The Hotcam and rockers sound like a decent deal for someone who just wants lope, but the cam itself is pretty lame and the 1.6 rockers from the kit are self aligning (useless if you ever go bigger). I would hold out for a cc503, 350rwhp is doable with the right supporting mods and stock heads on a M6 car.

Hold out for the 503. I had it and I loved it. DD'd it for over a year. I made 351rwhp, through a 6speed with full exhaust, 503, electric wp, and a Holley TB.

If it has a Jet POS I would be really worried about what other TERRIBLE mods might be done.

I'm not very familiar with OBD-1 tuning but what would be a better route to go than the jet?

Just take the JET off the PCM when you do the cam swap and get a custom mail order tune is you best bet.

Am I able to use the Jet to get a dyno-tune or are the mail order tunes a chipped ecu that you need to re-flash the ecu?

There's nothing wrong w/ used cams, and the LT4 is weak sauce. Get the 503.

The JET thing can be thrown in the trash or re-sell it, it's just a piggyback tune for bolt on cars; NOT a cammed setup tune; it's garbage for your purposes.....depends if yours is a 93 if it has a chip or a 94-97 PCM ....you need a sig!

Clarify if you are talking about an actual computer chip for a 93 PCM or a JET power module....

I have bought several used cams, I had one that had a .010 bend in it but we straitened it easily.
Im with everyone else that the hot cam is not a choice cam, However the most fun my car ever was was with a hotcam and a few bolt ons. Car ran a 12.7ish and had good street manners with a 6 speed.

I'm running a hotcam setup in my lil blazer with a 6 speed, it's a blast to drive, but the mail order tune I have sucks. I'm learning to tune now so I can make it run the way I want. there are better cams out there, but there is nothing wrong with the hotcam and it can be emissions legal.

Almost all the LS1 cars on the board that have a hotcam run high 11s, cam only. IMO that shows what it can do with better heads than a stock LT1. After 3 years I'm not tired of it, but I'm sure the CC503 would make more power.

Another vote for the 503. I went from 13.4s to 12.6s with just the cam swap and supporting valve train. Sound and drives great.

Okay mine is a 94 and it has the Jet module that the harness plugs into then it plugs into the ECU, I figured the hot cam wouldn't get much love its an old design that isn't too good but for $200 and RR I was curious what your guys opinion was.
As for not having a sig any pics or any of that its due to me not having an lt or ls car until late June so I should start updating stuff. Thanks for all of the input the CC503 funds aren't amazing with me having a project restoration of a Nova, and payments for my R6 but hopefully I will stock pile everything over the winter and tear it down early spring 2016
