LTx 396 The Eternal-Infernal Build. Some progress...
Some progress to report on the eternal-infernal build...
Ran 6AN fuel lines freeing up more space in the engine bay. First AN line I've ever installed... . Considerably less hassle than I expected.
I've been stuck for some time on what to do with the LS Coils.
It turns out that I bought the largest, most difficult coils available, to shoe-horn into the engine bay. Sorta stuck with'em for the moment. But I'll eventually pick up a set of LS7 coils.
Had a couple of false starts, but what felt like it would work, when it was in my head... sucked eternally in application.
But I finally got serious a week or so ago and decided not to re-invent the coil relocate... got some advice from a few boards and ran across a bracket that I liked on Ebay... but they didn't have one that fit these coils.
So I broke out the Tig welder I bought last year and what you see below is my 3rd thru 6th pass... with a tig. It's just mocked up, but I'll figure out how I'm going to attach it to the VC tomorrow. But I think this is going to work.
Then... it's just terminating the coil lines, installing the Radiator hoses, fill rad... Install new Battery harness, install Battery, PCM, Fill with oil, fuel and Fire it up.

Thanks!
I honestly don't know what to expect. My guess is High 5s, low 600 flywheel... around 450 through the Stalled Auto to the wheels on motor.
Once we get that stable, I'll add in the squeezin's. And I expect we will be able to safely shove another 250 out of it.

I'm gonna guess 590-610 flywheel

Videos of first start up are a must. Looks like a really nice, clean build. Great TIG work as well with mounting the coils, looks nice that way. Hope everything works out for you.
I really dig the color of the car too!

Got the second one fab'd and installed this evening.
I slotted the back mount point, so that they can be taken off fairly easily, if and when I need to get to the rockers. Just pull the front nut, loosen the back, lift and pull.
They're my first real fabrication effort, Tig skills are ROOKIE... Turns out Tig passes are like golf. One good pass sets you up for a real pig on the next one.
But, I'm happy with how it turned out, albeit fairly rough.

That 7.2 was our best pass of the night and she fell off to high 7s on the next pass. The next time out was up at Bradenton, where it came out of the hole on the first pass just ate up with wheel hop and the best pass I got was a 12.3... But each of the three passes I made, it felt like it was brake loading in OD.
I hadn't had wheel hop since we modded the rear suspension and it was NASTY wheel hop. So I think it bent on that sticky stage at Bradenton, but a couple of my buddies are of the mind that she bent on that 7.2 pass and Bradenton finished her off.

Its amazing how much longer it takes to "DO" the things on the list... .
New Bad-*** Battery harness is installed... Battery is charged. Oil Filter installed, Oil filled. The Valve cover bolts for the Cantons seem to have a different thread than the #20 thread that was cut into the heads... built four new ones cut and tacked up. The Belt tensioner was taken off before I installed the engine and for whatever reason, wasn't reinstalled... bolts missing. #18 bolts don't seem to thread... so, had to table that.
Went to plumb the radiation... The tranny cooler lines were installed differently because I'm reinstalling the AC... and the lines for that are too short, so I have to pull the Radiator and Condenser back off.
And that's where I left it tonight, despite being certain that I'd fire the engine today.

Busted my hump getting everything ready to fire the engine... Finally around 5:00 it was all together, radiator filled, fuel... battery & PCM installed.
Turned the key to the first position and the electrical system came alive. But I didn't hear the whir of the fuel pump. But I turned it over anyway. And for the first time in years, the engine turned, but it didn't fire.
Alas, a buddy of mine was in the shop when I got the Racetronix kit in last year and I let him install it... .
Anyone have any experience with the Racetronix 'direct to the Alternator' set up, in terms of common screw ups, resulting in nada?

If not, then it could be the wiring, PCM, FP, or even some security junk. After my car sat for 2-3 years I had the TDR relay under the glovebox go bad. That kept it from priming or cranking at all so I had to ground it out(Yellow to GND, just used a frame bolt right next to it) to disable it. Relays can go bad pretty easily from sitting too long!
