Default water pump drive seal

LOL I thought I was pretty cool when I went to National seal and had them find me a double lip seal for the WP drive on my 1996 WS6 LT1. Then with some more resarch it turns out that the 92 - 94 used the exact seal that they provided; oh well, just an FYI or maybe a sticky??

P.S. this does fit my 1996 WS6 LT1 as well, I have one in it now

I've never known there to be more than one type of seal and it has always been of the double lip variety.

not to be rude, Ive bought 3 rebuild kits and several timing chain gasket sets, everyone of them came with a POS of a seal that should have been put on the engineers man part lol

What rebuild kits were you using? It might be easier to just go with a "buyer beware" so nobody else has to find out the hard way.

Look at PN 10217886 although it Is called a double lip, it is the worst excuse for a seal that has ever been created, it is designed to fail.

but hay 45 years experience probably doesnt compair to you

P.S. Only Felpro, ----- buyer beware?? sheesh!!! SMH

oh PS if you were building engines back when I started, all they had were rope seals, on the old Babbet beaters "if you know what that IS?" We were cutting a fat cat when they switched to a SINGLE lip seal. although these did not survive well or long, there was a single lip seal made. Then they came out with the double lip. ya might want to know your history before you make fun of an old man.

I was referring to the LT1 water pump seal (which, after all, was the specific topic), sir. I don't need a lesson about the evolution of seals in general. I, too have assembled engines with rope seals and was making fun of no one.

Let's also make things clear. The seals you listed originally are for the optispark and not the water pump drive. They are indeed single lip.

The 10217886 GM seal has worked perfectly on my car for years and is probably on 80% of the cars in this forum. Failure is usually due to improper installation technique.

I do not understand why you are attacking me here as I did nothing to undermine your credibility. I only asked you which kits so if there was a legit problem then other potential buyers could avoid them. That chip on your shoulder must have blinded you to this.
