Default Head Bolt Torque Specs With AFR Heads

I am installing a set of AFR 190 heads on my 94 Z28, i have been told that the torque specs are different when using AFR heads. Anybody ever hear of this? Or is it the same as a stock LT1 head?

65-70ftlbs with a proper moly lube, and make sure you use a good washer on aluminum heads.

ARP studs say something crazy like 80ftlbs, but AFR told me to stick to 70 max on an LT1 to protect the threads in the block.

Make sure you torque them down in sequence and in three passes. I usually do 20#, 45#, then 70#.

Yeah, ARP lists a high number.

I used ARP fasteners(they do come with the washers), but I stuck with stock torque values of 65-70ft-lbs. Of course, not using the moly lube...I (very generously) used permatex high temp thread sealant....as those bolts go into the water jackets. I used three steps to get to the torque values(in the proper tightening sequence).....

Step One: 20ft-lbs
Step Two: 45ft-lbs
Step Three: 65-70ft-lbs

Edit:Looks like RamAir beat me to it.

I also used a small amount of black permatex on the threads of each stud, whether or not they were the ones that go through the jackets just to have uniform tq.

When I had bolts, the FelPro ones came with sealant on the threads already so I just used some moly lube under the washers and bolt heads.

I can't remember if I did under the bolt heads and washers, but I do think that is a good idea.
