there's a big difference between going sideways and drifting.

i do love sideways. f-bodies are great at getting sideways

but their overall weight and suspension configuration makes real drifting at speed really, really unpredictable, uncontrollable, and sketchy

if you think your fbody can hang with a 240 or rx7 you're on crack. you will either look like a ***** or you will spin it right into a wall

you could probably make it happen, though, at great expense, or with a ton of luck

Yeah; drifting is just staying sideways longer, at faster speeds usually. Control and balance, I get it. And luck? How about skill? I do pretty wide *** drifts in 2nd gear through intersections at 45-60 mph as it is. I want to get it on a drift track just to see what I can do in it, but I need more power first.

it's more about maintaining precise control, cornering and maneuvering while sideways, not just staying sideways.

try drifting an f-body to the left, then snap the other way and drift into a right turn and stay sideways, see how that works for you. it'll probably put you into a wall.

not saying you don't have the skill to do it (even though you probably don't) just that an f-body isn't responsive or predictable enough in such situations

i've been driving fourth gens for quite a long time, even though i can swerve that thing anywhere i want, i also know a lot of drifters.

the things they do just aren't happening in our cars.

In my humble opinion: Drifting is mostly about skill. People can drift anything from an underpowered '80s Corolla, a lifted turbo diesel, to a big rig semitruck. Beef up the suspension and stiffen the chassis, and your Camaro should do fine.

Very nice driving skills.

There were a couple of corners back when I owned my '96 3.8 that I loved to drift. I had RK Sport sway bars designed for a Z28 on it. The car handled great, but did make the rear much more loose.

I was goofing off in one of those turns and the back end got away from me. It snapped the opposite direction really hard as I tried to catch it. I didn't realize how hard it snapped until my Dad spotted something looking at the rear of the car one day.

My right rear sway bar bushing bracket had broke and was completely straight hanging from the side that didn't break. We pulled the pieces off, he reformed the bracket, and welded it back together.

He smiled at me a said, You must have really gotten out of shape to do that....and he was right.

Always thought it would be fun, but definitely going to take some suspension and a better steering radius.

Damn cars with stock stuff are like watching a slinkly moving horizontally.

Yah the soft suspension is what causes the horrible snap oversteer, and I agree with the steering. I have hit lock a couple times drifting through intersections and needed to turn it further than it would go; not cool.

Here's another one for ya. Don't listen to the naysayers, get a stiffer suspension than stock and you're golden. Hell, it should be much easier for you than the tuner guys anyways, you have a longer wheel base which will make it much more forgiving and less twitchy, and the power to get it sideways without ever touching the ebrake, one less thing to worry about.

Definitely! I found a forum that has a 750lb truck spring by Monroe I think it was for $80 from oriellys that fit the same id and that's what I put in the front of mine then built a new perch on the back and put the old front springs in the back. I then found all 4 kyb struts on Amazon for 125 dollars shipped and it barely moves now. I also have a 4th gen diff with 2 inch adapter spacers up front for a wider wheelbase and also lets me use almost all wheels that fit the lug pattern now.
