Default Valvetrain for Boosted LT1s

I'm starting to see more and more boosted lt1 guys posting these days. So what valve springs are you guys using? The shop tuning my car suggested I get some valve springs with .650 lift because they noticed valve float by 5900 rpms. They particularly mentioned BTR's (Brian Tooley) springs. Is anybody running his springs? What are you guys using for rockers?

Any quality roller rocker with a larger size trunion is good. I used pac springs with methanol, nitro and nitrous. Street drove them and then spun them at the track to 7500.

Don't know about those springs, but Manleys are good too. Never try and save a dollar on the valvetrain.

Thank you.
I just put in an order with Brian Tooley for his springs good for .650 lift.

Now I am hoping my rockers are up to the task
My engine builder put some stainless 1.6 PEP brand roller rockers, NSA, 7/16 studs in and said they are comparable to pro mags. But I have my doubts now.

I originally ran Patriot Gold Extreme springs but switched to Manley Nexteks. So far, so good.

Are they a stainless rocker or aluminum?

They are stainless.

I'm starting to read up on the shaft rockers, sound like the way to go. I had the old comp mags and sold them. I've heard the new ultras have a new design, lighter, etc.

Real good choice on the BTR springs. Anyone would be hard pressed to find a better spring. Super popular with the LS crowd. Proven and many custom cam gurus recommended running them which their cams.

There's pretty much no negatives to going to a shaft mount except cost.

A sportsman series shaft setup from jesel is nice. Only time I have seen a jesel break is on 1100+ open pressure triple springs running past 10k.

I had Ultra Promags but the bodies were too big to clear the retainers/springs on my heads so I switched to Harland Sharps.

I ended up with PSI max life duals and titanium retainers on my AFR heads. The valves are longer and different diameter than stock so getting the right parts was a little tricky. Should be 170 seat 400 open with the LE 226/239 cam.

I am running BTR LT springs with ultra pro mags on my setup with about 1500 street miles. I haven't beaten on it much yet and am only running 5 lbs boost for now, but no issues or complaints yet.

Good to see other LT1 owners with BTR springs, I see they're very popular with the LS1 crowd.

Reading my cam specs from my engine builder, it states that both my intake and exhaust max valve lifts are .606. What I am not clear on is, do the BTR springs at .650 lift simply provide a buffer safety zone? Or is my cam undersized for the springs? My tuner said the car wanted to keep boost climbing but as stated earlier, hit valve float at 5900 rpm. I am running AI ported Trickflow 215 heads and a Vortech T trim. Hoping for at least 12-15 psi of boost. But have only seen 10 psi so far. I'm assuming this is due to the valve float???

Springs can't reliably be rated for lift numbers because there are many variables that factor into what a spring can handle. Valvetrain system weight, ramp rates of cam lobes, boost, rpm, install height, etc.

Could be valve float or belt slip....or both. When I was looking to push more than 15lbs, I was getting valve float right around 6k. New, better springs fixed the issue but they also had to be set up properly (height, confirm seat pressure, etc). Too heavy a spring and the rest of your valvetrain may need to be upgraded as well.

My build sheet doesn't make mention of the springs being used.
