Default LT1 Motor mounts...

Ok so I'm in the process of changing out my leaking rack and pinion and while I'm here I'm thinking about doing a tubular K member.. So I was observing how will I go about attacking such a task and noticed this.. How the heck do I remove this bolt on the driver side motor mount? Is this normal? Or is this considered a sagging mount?

You will have to lift the engine up a little to get to that bolt (either jack or hoist). The stock mounts wear out and can sag/move.

Buying a harbor freight engine hoist that spans the shock towers will come in handy for this. You can wrap the chains around the header primaries and raise/lower either side independently (to a certain extent).

That's what happens when you have a stock short block, you never pay attention to the bottom half of the engine.. It's all about the top end lol

While that motor mount does look a little tired, that bolt was tricky to get out, even when the cars were new. I put the Energy Suspension poly inserts in my mounts....

My car has those and it spread the passenger side clamshell out so now it's nice and sloppy.

I am going through this now. In an effort to gain a 1/4 to 1/2 inch of room for a header collector turned into changing the mounts.

https://ls1tech.com/forums/lt1-lt4-m...i-missing.html

I got the above mentioned engine hoist and it is worth it. I work on the car on and off (have not done anything in a month) and I wasn't comfortable with jacking the engine up, not working on it for a while and having the jack leak down and drop everything.

Your bolt problem above is easily solved. Silver out first then black...they all have to come out anyway. If the silver head is resting on the black head then lifting the engine should help. It is not an easy job so far and I used the Prothane kit.
Good luck.
