Lloyd suggested a 230/236 110lsa for my future 383 build. I told him i want 6000rpm max. And awesome midrange hp/tq.
******, i have the gm "crane" 1.6 rr's and rev my cammed 350 to 5900-6000rpm with no isuue. I do have arp 3/8 rocker studs, trick flow hardened pushrods, and 1218 pac beehives though. I figure that would work with a 383 seeing similar rpms?

yeah all that will "work"...just many, including me, went NSA on RR and at that point I got the 7/16" studs & NSA RR

I have those Crane SA RR. Had one pop off a valve at the track. Did no harm fortunately but pushed me to NSA and guide plates, as had been recommended when I did my H/C. Had run the SA's many times at the track with no issue. But it just takes once. I got lucky.

I am re-using them in a stock iron head 355 with a Crane 227 cam. That motor won't see any RPM above 5500. Doing a carb conversion also but its going in a 70 Nova

If going with the LE cam, good, ask Lloyd if your Pac bee hives should be used. I think I know his answer...but discuss with him

Your valve springs need to be in good shape....they are a "wear" engine component. Especially with after market, higher lift cams

Good info. I will have to decide if i want to go NSA when the time comes. Being that im at only .533 lift the cranes were a good idea. This 383 cam will have around .565 lift which is pretty close to the cranes .575 max lift. NSA would prob be the way to go like you said.
Goodluck with the Nova, that 227 cam is a proven performer.

I also went away from SA rockers, I mashed two pushrods into oblivion on a track trip.

Then I eventually figured out the next motor didn't have hardened guideplates after some more valvetrain issues.

I made 580flywheel hp with a 396. It cost 3k for the longblock and at least that for the top end. So without any machine work you can expect a 6k dollar bill for parts. I would look for a vette block to get the 4 bolt factory mains (not needed but might as well start with a block you want to keep). I went with a bullet cam when I ran 8's with my 396, and while it was in the street car it was ran on a stock ecu. I refused to run solid lifters on a street car and used Dart lt1 heads instead of sbc conversion heads. All in I spent around twice what the car was worth to build it with a 396LT1, RPM T56, and a Moser 12 bolt and I never came close to making 500 wheel anything.

Ripped a LQ9 out of a junkyard gm truck and stuffed some forged pistons in it, I'm all in at $2500 for the LS motor and it made 530 flywheel, with the 76mm on it I don't have a clue what it will make.

I'm guessing not much. Probably just a cam/springs or cam/springs/ported heads, and external stuff like exhaust and injectors, tune.

Changed the pistons to a aftermarket forging and upgraded the rod bolts. Should have left it alone since the motor was within factory spec after 120k+(motor is a Gen 3 with Gen 4 rods). The heads have a port match and some PAC1218 springs with the upgraded trunions. Camshaft is a sloppy stage 2, computer is a Megasquirt Gold box.
