I'm full bolt on at 211K miles. I wouldn't do a cam swap or anything internal, but bolt ons will be fine.

so long as its been well cared for you should be fine. like said stick to bolt ons. suspension would be a good place to go. how old are shocks? maybe some heavier sway bars, strano has a great hollow set. hows the oil pressure?

This leads to another thought. If you're automatic, a converter and gears will wake the car up without doing much to the engine.

I've always bit the bullet dropped the pan and checked the rods and mains. Some times if you get it a little early a new set of bearings can be installed from below.. without having to touch the crank.

But most of the GM engines I've dealt with are in trucks, so the usage is often rougher than cars.. If the oil pressure is up and its a clean engine internally the odds are in your favor...

180k mi is on the long side of engine use. Just do bolt ons, no internal (cam) engine mods at that mileage. My $.02

I like Tbirds232ci's idea.. Drivetrain can go a long way, as well as suspension..

Maybe.....maybe not.

Still, I wouldn't mod a 180K engine without doing a rebuild.

But that's just me.

not good to throw in a new cam on 180 k mi old cam bearings....and the only way to change all cam bearings is to pull the motor.....and at that point just "rebuild" the motor.

Do gears (3:73 auto, 4:10 T56) and Torque converter, new valve springs & 1:6 RR, headers and a mail order tune. The lower gears will get it going faster and the new valve springs will let it rev higher and new PCM tune will add HP & TQ

thanks, what do you think about this? i found a lt1 caprice on craigslist its, ''
Completely Rebuilt motor upper and lower all internals rebuilt transmission torque converter & flywheel less than 600 miles on rebuilt motor to much to list needs a PCM tune'' could i just swap that into my camaro? is a PCM tune a big deal?

block should be the same, heads are iron unless they been changed, yours are aluminum. you will need your intake and associated stuff.

the Caprice LT1 will "bolt in" but you will have to use your accessory's, damper and if the caprice motor is the same OBD1 or 2 as yours you may need to swap over Timing cover & CPS wheel if doing OBD2

Caprice motor would have iron heads. stock iron heads flow better than stock LT 1 AL heads but are heavier. Stock Aluminum heads that have been ported flow better.

You will need to get a PCM tune for whatever modifications you do beyond "stock" for engine (cam), rear gears, injector size, etc.

You have a '95 Camaro; what year is the Caprice?
