I have a 96 Roadmaster. Its all stock, I drive it every day. I am assuming this is a ground issue, because....I broke all the grounds on the left cyl head taking the coil off. I have replaced the oil level sensor, twice. Did not fix the issue.

Start the car up, drive it down the road....no lights on the dash. Get in the gas about half throttle and when it reaches the first to second gear shift point the low oil level light comes on, engine sputters, the light goes off, engine picks back up and continues on.

Repeat the same action with the throttle application (with out turning the car off) and it wont do it again, shifts and runs good under load.........but then will idle poor and hesitate off idle.

I have not seen another thread on any forum with that specific issue of it only occurring one time per start up. I have re-done the ground 3 times on the left cylinder head. I am to the point of tracing wires back unless someone has gone though this already.

Oil sensor is a dummy light, that's why you have a dipstick. Verify oil level is fine via dipstick.

Then put a resistor in the harness plug and move on to figuring out why the car stumbles.

No resistor needed. Just a jumper wire. I have an office staple plugged into mine.

Bah, you're right. I'm thinking of VATS bypass.

Sorry, I forgot to mention I already jumped the plug. Still has the same issue.

You jumped the harness plug and still get a low oil level light? That's odd.

A wire from the plug could be damaged.

That's what I'm thinking or the jumper wire is not contacting the terminals correctly.

I cut the wires behind the plug and tied them together. No change in the symptom. I didn't think it would change anything the sensor is new. I am starting to think the ground is cut but one would think it would do this every time on a hard shift not just once per start up. I hate to ignore it because when I tow some heavy throttle sometimes is nice to be able to use.

Again, use the dipstick and ignore the idiot light. These sensors typically cause more issues than they help. I had an oil leak though the body of the sensor. I simply found an adapter and use a oil temp gauge from that pan port now...no more leaks.

As far as the studder on acceleration, that may be something different.

The engine shutter is directly related to when the oil level light comes on. the sensor is looped. and the oil level light comes on and the engine cuts out until the light goes off. Looking at a dipstick isn't going to help anyone right now.

Sounds like a wiring issue...maybe some touching together? Any rodent activity? Gotta be something wrong with the wiring to the low oil sensor, since the loop does not fix it.

Did you ever find a solution on why this was happening? I have a 94 Caprice that is doing the same thing.
