Why won't my fans turn on? I have a 1995 Formula Firebird, been having cooling issues lately, trying to avoid overheating so I don't blow a head gasket, like my cousin's Z28. Is there a sensor that could be working intermittently that could cause my fans to only work sometimes? Right now the only thing stopping a full on over-heat after my coolant temp climbs over 210 is when I turn on my heater full blast and popping the hood for air-cooling when I'm stuck in traffic and the air dam is useless (because I'm not moving). New thermostat helped a little, the old one was sticking shut. Any advice would be considered helpful. Thanks |
What are the temps getting up to? These engines do run pretty hot stock like 225-230 sometimes while sitting stationary which isn't unusual until the car starts moving again. If you don't have anything done to the pcm or car the fans will kick on in the mid 220's. Fyi |
Everything above Take a test light and probe the fan plug, turn the AC on to see if the other fan comes on. |
get a scanner on it and see what the coolant temp is reading. the sensor in the water pump is known to go bad and it tells the pcm to turn the fans on. if it's conan ding fans on and there not working you may have a bad relay or fan |
