Block decked. How much to cut the intake? Quench, too!
Karl built me another shortblock, and it was decked to 9.010, and I will be running the .026 headgasket. If my research is correct, this is a .015 difference between the OEM deck height, and a .013 difference in headgasket thickness between OEM (.039) and MrG's (.026). My total height difference is .028 - which is large enough to make intake sealing potentially problematic. Am I correct here?
If so, does the math works out to cutting .0336 off the face, and .0476 off the rails?
Thanks for your help
Edit: Pistons are .007 in the hole, so looking at a quench of .033 and 11.46:1 CR. Given the detonation issues I've been fighting, I may go to a thicker head gasket, too
Edit 2: I've read elsewhere that the stock HG for the b-body (non-impala) was .049, which would give me a total of .038. difference in deck-height versus stock. So should I now be cutting .0456 off the face, and .0646 off the rails?

stock iron head LT1 head gasket is .029. Aluminum head LT1 .049
might want to discuss with Karl if he has your pistons .007 in hole. He would need to know the chamber size of whatever heads you will be using...after any decking that may have been done to them both on valve face and port face side

My block is decked pretty much the same. I believe it is .007 to .010. Heads that I have been using for the last 20 years have been milled probably three or more times .003 each time and I haven't done anything to the intake and it appears to be sealing fine.
