I went 12.90 on stock tune, 3.23 gears, pace setter long tubes, K&n cai, 180 thermostat and 3500 ptc stall. everything else stock. I still ran into reliability issues left and right, so I would recommend looking at any reliability issues now then later. Having a driving car is much more fun then a non driving one.

My favorite set up was heads and cam, ported Dart Pro-1s, ol' CC306, 3.90 gears in a six speed. When that thing was tuned and had the 3.90s it was a super fun car to drive. If you staid out of it, the fuel economy wasn't that bad. Made decent power, 42Xrwhp through a 12 bolt.

When I ran my 13.3 here in Vegas all of the ls1 guys swore I was on the bottle so I lined up with a cammed, 243 headed, longtubes, full exhaust z28 with a 3800 converter he ran 12.2 all day so I cracked the bottle open set on 150 shot and rowed through the gears at an 11.36 and said that is what the bottle does bitches!!!!

I had a ton of fun with my bolt-on build once it had a lot of suspension work. Honestly good suspension is a waaayyyy biggere difference then any of my "power" mods I made besides the stall(which isn't reall a power mod). Wasn't super fast - best ET was only a 12.8 - but it was a lot of fun, still had AC/radio/back seats/etc and was my DD.
If I was looking for a fun but totally reliable DD I would just do a bit of intake and exhaust work to the motor(****** up a used CAI for cheap, longtubes, and true duals), stick a 160 tstat in it and have it well tuned, gears and/or stall if applicable, then go straight to suspension(LCAs, relos, TQ arm, springs, good tires, etc). Thats it...save your money on gimmicky stuff like aftermarket MAFs and plug in "chip" tuners, and don't waste money on "sig mods" you don't really need at that point like throttle bodies, injectors, fuel pressure regulators, and intake manifolds.
You will have a 12 second car that is still just as reliable as stock, and won't be a chore to drive on the street.
