Default Radiator Fans Won't Turn On

Hello all,

So just recently I purchased an all stock 1996 Camaro SS (black, 6 spd, t-tops). The car is in nice shape overall but I cannot get the radiator fans to come on. I have wired a manual fan switch already, I tried wiring it the proper way near the pcm and through the relay box. I tried jumping the pins on the OBD2 port, still nothing. The only way they've ever kicked on is by jumping pins 1 and 4 on coolant fan relay #2. Doing this will turn the fans on so they do have the ability to work. Are these signs pointing to a bad relay? I'm a bit confused at this point.

Perhaps a stupid question, but is the car overheating? The default setting for fan temp to come on is 220* I believe?

If I get stuck in traffic or have to sit it will start to overheat yes.

I'd pull all the underhood fan relays and test them. There are schematics on www.shbox.com as well. However it it were me, and being lazy, I'd just replace them with Bosch and see what happens. If you do that, make sure you get the correct relays that are either normally open or normally closed.

As stated check out schbox's site for the diagram and check your relays. You need all 3 relays for the fans to work, they run in series for low speed and parallel for high.

Here's the link for a 95, but the 96 should be similar just with constant power, not switched, according to the notes. http://shbox.com/1/fan_schematic_1995.jpg
