95'lt1 going into a 97' M6 ? i got a 95 lt1 out of a TA and was wondering if the 97' computer and harness will work with the motor? i got a 1997 TA and wanna put my 95' 383 into it.. |
I believe it should be a pretty straight forward swap. Some differences that may need to be addressed is the crank sensor and the knock sensor. I think you'll need to swap over the timing cover, crank sensor, and crank reluctor wheel, as well as the knock sensor over to the '95 engine. |
^^^^ and also use the damper hub from the 97 motor. The 95 block will have a NPT plug you remove on one side of the motor so you can install the 2 knock sensors from the 97 (one on each side of the block) |
OBDII f-bodys don't have two knock sensors. Are the opti harnesses the same, or is a vented opti going in? |

And I am gonna be using the 97 harness and computer correct ? That's also what I was told . Nothing 95 related for electronics.. |

IIRC, if the 95 is vented then you should be good if using an OBDII harness/PCM. |

i was told that the only thing I'd need to change is the the one knock sensor on the block from a 95 to a 97 sensor and that changing out the hub to a 97 was optional. I'm really not wanting to change that damn hub out again it's kind of a pita Didn't know F body OBD2 LT1's only used one KS so if that's the case just use your 97 sensor in the 95 motor. Look up the TQ to tighten it. Don't over TQ it Yes use your 97 PCM and harness |

The hub on the 97 (OBD2 car) is shorter because you have a reluctor ring for the CPS. If you want your belt to line up you need to maintain your 97 hub on the 95 motor since you will use the 97 TC and reluctor wheel Didn't know F body OBD2 LT1's only used one KS so if that's the case just use your 97 sensor in the 95 motor. is there any possible way I can run the 95 timing cover ? Because I just got done assembling my 383 lol and didn't know . Anyway I could delete some stuff to make it easier ? if you converted to OBD1 you can use the 95 cover. IDK what is involved in converting a OBD2 car to OBD1 but people have done it. If plug in emissions is a issue for you, can't convert a OBD2 car to OBD 1 and pass emissions plug in test if motor is buttoned up with 95 TC and hub...you will need to drop front of oil pan enough to remove TC R&R the hub is not hard. A standard star puller gets them off and you can make a install tool simple with all thread rod, large fender washers, thrust bearing and 1 nut the size of all thread (same size as crank bolt thread) |

yes. cps can be tuned out. |
Yep just as long as you do not have a crank reluctor wheel in place. |
