Question best starting mods?

I have a 94 Z28 Camaro. I have about $1000 to spend on mods. All I have so far is cat-back exhaust (flowmaster 80 series) and a new WS6 ram-air hood (not functional YET). What would be the best way to spend this money on my car? Someone reccomended headers and cold air intake and someone else said intake and lowering 2". If headers/intake is the way to go what are the best? borla/ K&N? Short mid or long headers?
Also is there any cheap mods I can do myself ie. cutout cat ect. that would help. Thanks.

I would start out with the exhaust Pacesetter LT Headers, then Y-pipe, then a cat-back system, I like Borla or GMMG. But if you don't have to much money the Magnaflow system is great, stainless, 3in, and less than 400. If you get all 3 of those it would cost about 900 to a 1000, if any money is left over I would then get a CAI

I was very happy with Jet-Hot LT's, Flowmater cat-back and a cai. $500 for the headers, $200 for the y-pipe, $170 for the cai, $70 for the copper gaskets & header bolts and you already have a cat-back (dont waste you money on a new one, a flowmaster is fine). However, if you dont plan on installing everything yourself plan on spending some more $. LT's can be a bitch and are time consuming. I think book time on that job is 10.3 hours... not sure though.

Oh yea, if you wanna get LT headers dont plan on lowering your car, ground clearance issues if you do.

What are your plans for the car? M6 or A4? I have found that doing the big stuff first is always the best. I'd go with LTs, cut-out, and CAI.

This is going to be a very big problem for me. My car was lower 2 inch by the guy before me. I had problem with the stock Y pipe on about 50% of speed bumps. I dunno what's going to happen w/ the LTs

Thanks for all the suggestions. Its an A4 but oh well. I want to lower it because GM obviously wants camaros to look like 4x4s but if ground clearence is an issue i might just go for a 1" drop. Also since I plan to make my WS6 hood functional soon would getting a 96-97 SS air box be a good idea? Does anyone have any experience with Kooks headers... Ive heard very good things about them.

If you have an A4 your best performance gain will come from a stall, next would be headers. Getting an air box is a good idea. Find the lower part of any LS1 car, SLP lid and bellow; you will love it. I have had it for a few months now!

Even a 1" drop will be a problem, as it is with mine i cant go over most speed bumps. Raised driveways and parking lots are a pain in the *** as well. If u really want to lower it then go with shorties or mid-lengths, but u wont see as much of a difference in power and sound as you would with LT's. Id leave the car at stock height and just get a set of bigger wheels with a lower series tire, that'll make it look a little lower.

I wouldnt bother with that. Just get a cai instead, with the acception of a lighter wallet you wont notice any difference.

This is what i would do first, stall and headers, you'll be pleased with the outcome. Then you can start saving for the cam.

The lt4 hotcam kit is about $520, maybe less, depends on where you buy it. I only got the hotcam because it suited my needs the best, good streetability and reliable. I cant afford to build a monster yet. There are better cams however, just depends on what you want.

I dont know anything about stall kits sorry.

LS1 parts will not fit on an LT1, they're two completely difference engines, an LS1 is a 346ci aluminum block, an LT1 is a 350 iron block (among other differences). Im not sure about non-engine parts, like cat-back systems or suspension mods though.

DO NOT LOWER YOUR CAR lol Take my word for it. If you want your car lower get low profile tires...

My car was lowered when i baught it. I scrape on every thing. ITs not worth the hassle.

I've heard of people with Jet-Hots, Pacesetters, Kooks having fine ground clearance with a 1'' or 1.5'' drop being okay...

I would do the LS1 style air intake instead of a LT1 CAI. I bought the bottom half of the LS1 air intake for $50, $50 for a K & N, $55 for the SLP bellow and $110 for a Lid. That totals $265 and that is about as much as a good LT1 CAI goes for. You have a straight shot for air to get into your engine, that has to better than the 90 degree bend in a LT1 air intake.

You wont see any difference in doing that. Air induction kits are just like cat-backs, there isnt much difference, if at all, between most of the options. Remeber a cai is really only good for 5-15 rwhp, depending on your setup. Its just a very cheap and easy to install mod that you need to get the most out of the more important mods (headers, cam, heads, ect..). Dont any spend extra time and money on this one, just find one cheap and save for the other mods. I got my Lingenfelter cai for less than $170 new, used go for even cheaper.
