Default need a tranny!!

ive given up on the m6 conversion in favor of the slightly cheaper a4 replacement. now im debating a straight rebuild of my dead trans or buying a stronger 4l60e so it can bolt up w/o modification. no shop in my area seems interested in simply building mine to handle more power because "the stock specs are good enough".......true, until it takes some hard launches and blows up again. a couple of ?s to everyone
1. Are the local guys right?
2. Where to start looking for a well built trans replacement
3. Am I completly wrong in thinking it will be much easier to replace a 4l60e with another 4l60e (I'll have the help of a few people who have swaped trannys before)

I'd like to get rolling again before the sun comes up here in the frozen north so any help on this would be much apreciated.....thanks

A 4l60e will hold decent power with a stall. A direct swap is easier then an M6 swap for sure. Get in touch with "pro built automatics" on the board, he seems to know whats up with A4s.

Exclamation Buy mine...

I have an FLP stage 4 4L60E out of my 95 for sale. It had around 3000 miles on it when I took it out. I refreshed it, tore it down went through the whole thing. I went with a TH400 and a much higher stall.

$1500.00 +shipping.

New from FLP they cost $1999.00 plus $650.00 core.

Buy mine sell your old one save $$$.

PM if interested.

I recently took out my 4L60e in favor of a TH350. The 4l60e had a year's worth of racing and daily driving. Put 26000 miles on it in that year. Car had a CC305 cam and 2 stages of gas. ~650 hp to the wheels with a 4400 convertor. Trans was pulled when I wor oue the band.

The 4L60e will definately take the beating with the right internal trans mods.

as far as power goes the sky (and my wallet) is the limit. i was set for kooks lts and 847 w/ 2800 stall and valvetrain parts but the tranny blowing up kinda put a dent in those plans so for now im pretty much stock. eventually ill get back on track so ill need something that can handle at least the type of power those mods add. i figure ill swith to a th400 or something similar when the car goes off the street but for now id like something easy to put on and string enough to handle a few years of abuse.
